I just got the turbo package from Keith in today's mail and was wondering if any of the LOST members who have installed the GDE turbo had any helpful install hints beyond those in the instructions posted on the GDE web site.

I'm of no help, but congrats on the upgrade.

Lucky. My transfer case killed not only itself and the transmission... But my ability to get his turbo. I'm hoping he still has one in 4 or 5 months when I might have the money again.

--sigh--

Hate to say it, but the best advice I can give you its to pay someone to install it!!! It cost me $650 to not worry with that headache. Was it worth it?..........In my mind it was!!! And your talking to a guy who installed his own turbo and injectors on the 2003 Dodge Cummins in my sig. The engine bay of these things are not mechanic friendly in the least!!!!!

Most pro mechanics aren't going to want to tackle a custom job like that, especially with the added fun of custom welding onto the down pipe.

I'm just insane enough to tackle it, and I have my own MIG welder setup too. Anyone want to donate to the Buy-Geordi-a-turbo fund? :D If nothing else, you know I'll probably be entertaining with a story about how the new turbo made my rig so powerful that the engine tore the rear driveshaft in half...

After everything else that I've replaced on my CRD, its about the only thing left!

You're preaching to the choir bud!!! I've blown up two front diffs, had the t-case replaced, window regulator, door lock mechanism, rear u joint, and now the turbo in this last year and half!!!!!

Well a 4-6 month window is about right for me. GDE needs a few ordered at a time to build these kits. I should have the funds set aside by July. I should be at about 150-160,000 miles and more than ready for the upgrade. I might even ship mine to GDE for the upgrade (including new glow plugs to get rid of the ceramic ones). Then I could fly up from Texas...visit relatives in Detroit and drive back.

I'll tell you this........I have been conveniently lucky with both the 2nd blown diff, when just a couple days before that happened, JBA just got finished with one steel unit for a gasser to beta test, and was needing a CRD for a test run before releasing them to the public. Then, this turbo craps out on me right when Kieth at GDE was in the middle of a production run and only had couple spare units not spoken for. If he didn't have any on the shelf ready to go when he did,I would have had no choice but to go back with stock.
