Has anyone had issues with the rear end going out? Mine started clunking real bad today without warning. I plan to open it up later I'll give you an update on what I find. :banghead: :furious:

The only way you should have rear end problems this early on is someone doing a crappy job in reinstalling. Or ran it out of gear oil without knowing it. Both of them will cause early bearing failure which could be giving you that clunk from the rear.

Depending upon miles (etc), the clunking could be the ball joint in the center of the rear upper control arm - which means the whole rear-end is rotating forward and backward a bit. Check the rear lower control arms too - mine got so bad that there was significant torque steer.

After pulling the cover off and looking at the gears everything looks fine. I think the skipping and clunking is coming from the transfer case. Is there anyway to drop the transfer case and just make the jeep 2wd till I have time and can afford to get it fixed? Ugh...

Would cost as much as fixing it.
