Well recently I had a buddy of mine have his Rubicon burn to the ground on the trail. So I have first crack at the parts i want. So I guess my big question is should i take him up on his offer for his roctrac with 1300 miles for $800. I know it is a direct bolt in just with new drive shafts but the 4 to 1 would be a nice crawl ratio in a CRD with 4.10s. So my realy question is 800 fair and is it as easy as of a swap as i think or even worth the trouble?

For that price, you could always resell later!!

I'd say put in the rock track and skip the 4.10... that way you'd have great hwy MPG and still wheel awesome! (and save a little money)

Either way I am jealous and can't wait to follow your progress!

The crawl ratio would be insanely low with that tcase the 545rfe's extremely low first gear AND 4:10's. stick with stock gearing and put the tcase in, it will be awesome.

That's kinda the whole point.

Besides 4.10's,4:1 low,and the 545RFE's 3:1 1st gear is not even 50:1 crawl ratio with a 265/75R16 tire.I'm at 66:1 crawl ratio and have found it's sometimes not low enough.

Well I will be going for it at the end of this week and already have 4.10s. So extremely low crawl ratio plus diesel power and torque equals huge offroad advantage. And Tom send me 1k and it is all yours oh and plus shipping. Looks like I will be waiting on the ARBs.

This may be a stupid question, but if your friend's jeep "burnt to the ground" how hot did the roctrac get ?? Extreme heat does funny things to metal. As long as you're sure it didn't get some type of metal fatigue due to the heat then go for it. :JEEPIN:

Well I doubt it saw any real heat considering the transmission is already in another jeep running down the road.

for rocks im sure the low gearing is great, but here we have a lot of loose stuff where 4hi is too tall, and too low of a 4lo isnt enough wheelspin. i usually need 2nd gear low for some sandy climbs.

Well around here it is red mud and rocks so 4lo and lockers are a must also a set of big knobby tires don't hurt

50:1 crawl ratio is a happy meduim for a auto trans. When I wheeled in KY for ECS I had zero issues with my 66:1 crawl ratio and no real rocks to be seen, lots of steep mudding hill climbs but holding it at about 5000-5500rpm's in low/1st gear and up I went with the right amount of wheel spin. The only issue I had was keeping up with the others that wanted to do 15mph on the trails when 5-7mph was my max and I'm sure those who got stuck behind me shortened there brake life trying not to run into me on those steep downhills that I had to step on the gas pedal to go down while there 2 footing the brake pedal.

You can,you have the 42RLE trans so the RockTrac is a direct bolt in.The shifter is going to your issue but not hard to overcome. You should be able to use Advance Adapters RubiCrawler also which might be a better option for the KK's.

When I had my Rubicon with 4.88's I loved the crawl ratio with that TC. Go for it.

Well I do have a small issue to solve before going to pick it up. And that is the fact that I do have the 545RFE and was wondering what kind of adapter if any do I need. Also should I have any issue fitting it into where my NP242 goes?

It will be a direct bolt in as long as the Rubicon it's coming out of was a auto also but the shifter will be reversed and off by one since it has only 4 selections where as the 242 has 5.Of course you know the driveshafts have to be modified.

Umm might have a small issue it came out of a manual. But that would just be a shaft swap right?

Yeah a manual trans RockTrac will not work, different input then what you need to put behind your auto trans.

Could I just swap the input side to mate with the automatic transmission? Or would it be easier to swap the transmission output shaft?
