We got some nasty sleet/ice mix last night so I ran the 4x4 hi (part-time) on the way to work this morning. No issues until I got to work. I was coasting through the parking lot and as I turned sharply to pull into a parking spot, but not to full lock, the Jeep slowed down very quickly as if I applied the brakes or ran over something. Tried giving it gas to pull into the spot, but it wouldnt hardly budge. I then backed out after straightening the wheels, took it out of 4x4 and it turned sharp without any issues. No obstructions ariound the wheels or in the wheel wells. Anyone know a possible cause?

Thats the way the four wheel drive works, very normal. Try not to use it on dry pavement.

Yep normal.Called "binding" or "loading up" and if driven enough on traction surfaces(dry pavement or wet pavement) will make something go "BANG" and then empty your wallet. Why it's called "Part Time" 4wd.

Definitely was not on dry pavement, there was at least 1/2 inch of icy/sleet mix on the road. But good to know it's normal, I had never noticed it before.

Even with crap on the road surface the tires can sometimes cut through enough to get traction to bind as the others have said.

Do you have the Part-time/Fulltime/Neutral/4lo (242) case? or the Part-Time,Neutral/4-lo (231) Case? If you have the 242 use Full Time not Part time.
