Yoicks. That amount of rust... I would be worried about leaving the transmission on the road after a hard bump.

Word of advice to anyone living 200' from the ocean or in the salted-road universe... Get your vehicle undercoated!

Obviously Chrysler isn't in the mood to care about customer service if a brand-new truck on a dealer lot is ALREADY rusting... They aren't paying for the rustproofing at the factory anymore, do you think they will pay to fix your vehicle? HAH! If they can shorten the warranty or put all kinds of little exceptions into it, EXPECT THEM TO. (Vehicle will be covered bumper-to-bumper as long as the original owner maintains vehicle with Mopar-branded baby-seal-oil undercarriage lube)

I was talking to a customer who have a Kia with a 100,000 mile 10 year warranty and everything that broke on it is not covered. In fact the car is falling apart and none of it is covered. If it sounds too good to be true, it isn't. :goink:

LOL, it's not THAT bad!
I was planning to have it undercoated this fall, curious what is the preferred choice on this board, the 2 popular places around here are Rust Check and Krown, only difference I think is Rust Check offers a thick (gel?) type undercoating that cakes on, where Krown is strictly wet drippy stuff.

Opinions?

Cannot speak for what undercoating is best but you really need to kill that rust before undercoating otherwise the rust will just continue under the undercoating. Back in the day my Dad's Datsum pickup had the holes to prove it.

What changed in 2006 so that those vehicles aren't covered by the recall?

The garage Kept part is why you have more rust.

why? because he brings a salty jeep in to a warmer than outdoor garage? this helps it rust faster?

don't think mine is undercoated but I have an unlimited monthly wash plan at a local auto dealer complex so i go once a week or more if there was road salt or brine put out. $20/month with under blast wash and self vacuum isn't a bad deal. I park outside too.

Yep,heat + salt + faster metal corrosion.

Below is a pic of my rear LCA,8 years of being abused in that pic which was right before my SFA swap.Notice the scratches? Those came from the last wheeling trip 1.5 years before that pic was taken and there not even rusted yet.Still perfectly good besides the fact it's bent(still don't know how that happened). My KJ was undercoated about 10mins after being inloaded off the transport truck, state law for every new vehicle sold in my home state and I wash it every sunday no matter what($15 undercarriage,$5 for the rest).

The rust on my 05 was almost a deal killer. From SoCal, I'm not use to "new" (05 is new to me) cars with this much rust. My 05 came from Chicagoland and had rust bubbling paint in the rear hatch where the glass touches the seal (or just above it) and lots of light rust underneath. Not surprised to see this recall.

I still can not see how they can force Chrysler to recall enviromental factors they can not control or the lack of proper maintenance from the owners.

This type of recall should be forced upon the local governments(state) to foot the bill since they are the ones approving the salt use.

Quality products. How many recalls on the kj is this? 3? At this point they owe you. Well not you but everyone else

For a link go to http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallsearch.cfm select "vehicle" and follow the prompts to select Jeep, 2005, etc.

Well looks like I will be getting the replacement. Well look out for another across the board price increase on replacement parts.
Not saying that the recall is bad, just we all will be helping the company recoup their losses by paying more for parts.

I just replaced mine about a month ago is there any way I can get reimbursed for the parts from Chrysler? I couldn't risk waiting for a recall to happen. I still have the old arms and my receipts. Here is the thread with the pics of mine (and more incessant rambling by Tjkj2002) viewtopic.php?f=5&t=64853

Doubt it since your KJ may not even be under the recall being in CO.
