My drain threads AREN"T stripped and I have the original plug....I know that is pushing things....What would you do (anyone) buy the new hex head plug or go with something else? I don't have a skid plate and i worry about the fumoto being exposed to damage....HJ

If you are offroading without at least OEM skids and worring about a Fumoto, which sits just behind the frame cross member and next to the oil filter, being exposed to damage I'd suggest you have a lot more expensive things (oil pan/tranny/etc) exposed to damage than the Fumoto or even cheap things like the oil filter that can get really expensive if damaged. Translation under these circumstances get good skids and get the Fumoto, of course with the lever lock clip.

On the other hand if you don't to rocky offroad or just drive hwy just get the Fumoto and clip.

FYI about the only off road I do is a sandy boat ramp. I have the front skid and Fumoto with good original threads (considered it a cheap fix in front of a known problem) but I did just invest a bit under $100 for the OEM tranny and transfer case skids as cheap insurance for road debris (wish I could show you the cut in my 1993 Cummins running board and exhaust pipe caused by road debris). Before anyone comments on OEM skids I consider them just fine for my type of driving; if I did Moab or some such I'd likely have a different opinon.

Isn't there another company that makes one out of stainless steel? I dont go off road but I do think the tranny and engine skid is in my future just for shitts and giggles....

Got the stripped plug hole drilled, treaded and Fumoto'd this weekend piece of cake. Total cost $57. All the parts I got on Amazon were high quality made in the USA go figure. I also upgraded to the M301 filter instead of that wimpy stock/fram filter.

Thanks for the help.

My pan threads aren't toast, yet, but are on the way to being shot. The plug threads in easy for the first couple of turns and then is hard for a turn or two then easy again until tight. I'm not leaking so that's good.

Can someone verify that the process is: a 41/64 drill bit, 18mm x 1.5 tap and the F-104 Fumoto?

I saw someone on another thread mention using the F-102 and Locktite -- seems sketchy to my engineering mind.

The dealer did an oil change when I had it in last year for the timing belt and water pump -- I think they stripped it then but I have no way of proving it.

This isn't new to this CRD --

Valvoline Instant Oil Change stripped the pan back in 2006 - said they would pay for a new pan, dealer did the pan - I took the bill to Valvoline and they stiffed me. I tried a small claims court suit and they exercised their right to move it out of small claims... so I let it go, if I lost I would owe them their court and lawyer fees.

Thanks.
