I just purchased an 06 Renegade and have put less than 1000 miles on it yet. It's already been back to the dealer because of two problems: 1. The brakes howl like a dump truck for about the first 30 seconds of driving almost daily, and the parking brake is REALLY tight and hard to pull 2. is the the light/fog light switch makes a fast repeated click like a fuse is out (fuses are fine), but it's not constant. This is a random thing that might happen once a day, and last for about 10 seconds. At night if it happens the fogs will turn on and off like a strobe. This problem can happen after driving for 5 minutes, or maybe after 20, you just never know.
Any ideas? I'm supposed to have been documenting the problems and going back to the dealer midweek, but they said they ran a full electrical check and everything is fine, and on the brakes they thought it was just glaze from sitting on the dealer lot (not the case), but they would tear everything apart and lube/adjust all brake components and see if that fixes things.

By the way, as soon as I drove it off the lot I swapped the ST's for a set of Wrangler Silent Armor tires and they're awesome!
Thanks, Clay

Although I haven't had any problems with my Renegade, I see this all the time. There is something evidently wrong with your Renegade, these things shouldn't happen AT ALL, and the "mechanic" hooks it up to his little diagnostic and says "Nope can't find anything wrong, sorry" well obviously there is something wrong, how about some good old fashioned mechanic work....get your head under the hood and figure it out, thats what I'm paying $70 /hr labour for.

I have an `04 Reny.

1. Squealing brakes.......I think it is normal - mine did it for a couple months after I bought it and quit and I know a couple others that had that issue.
2. E-brake tight. Good thing. It will loosen up. Do you have a Limited Slip Differential (or has that been eliminated from `06 models)? If you do have one, off-roading will loosen it up.
3. Fog lights - sounds like a problem to me.

Brakes are normal.

The fog light thing is kinda crazy. Could be the switch itself.

The KJ is well known for electrical gremlins. The Body Control Module frequently fails on these things..and then weird things start happening. Will make you think your Jeep is haunted...

My 05 renegade did that too, it was just the first couple times I used the brakes after it was parked overnight. It's a year old now and I no longer hear it, so I'm guessing the brakes wore in a little.

The foglight clicking is very strange. It's too bad it's that intermittent, it makes it hard to get the dealership to take it seriously (and really, it's hard for them to figure out what the problem is if they can't see the problem). Make sure it's documented, and if it keeps happening, keep bringing it in - it's all covered under warranty, and the good news is, if you bring something in before the warranty goes, they fail to fix it, and it gets worse after the warranty expires, they still have to fix it no charge. So keep records of the things you bring it in for.

Every morning I would take my Renegade out of the garage the brakes would do that for a few seconds. I brought it in for service; they checked it and said nothing was wrong. After reading through the forums a bit it seems that it's the result of condensation/temperature from sitting overnight. It actually doesn't do it anymore. As for the Emergency brake, mine was the same way but it didn't really bother me. I pull mine up so high that no one can get it undone. Now it goes all of the way up :) The relay for the fog lights is probably screwed up, try replacing it. That's the only reason I would think it would click.

I Have over 5K on mine and no problems with my Renegade, but it sounds like a a loose connection on the fog relay, maybe a ground or hot to the coil :?: but I would stay onto the dealers service dpt. till it was fix. -- Tell them if they dont fix it you will rent a moble sign to tow around town saying where you bought it and they want fix it LOL that will get thier attention

The Limited Slip, has been replaced with ESP, Electronic Stability Program...better in my opinion, and any of you who have seen my wheeling pics know that it works well off-road.

My only problem is the CD player. It seems to skip even before I put the KJ in gear. Not sure whats wrong. I have tried cleaning it with no improvement.

Hi, Just checking in... As I have had some problems with my 2005 Renegade with only 6500 miles on it. See the discussion "My Computer was dump?" Something that maybe you guys can keep your eyes on.

I have 10K on my '05 Renegade... so far (knock on wood), no problems other than having the rear "brake moan" a few times. Can't find the thread "My computer was dump"... can you direct me to that discussion, or elaborate on it Chris?

Thanks

I got an answer from the dealership today. Once again on the brakes they said they're just new and need time to seat, but they cleaned them up. On the electrical problem they are replacing my multi-function switch (headlights/fog/turn signal). I should have it back by tomorrow afternoon, so we'll see.
