OK So I have purchased a travel trailer ~21 ft. the weight on the tag says 2250. I know my tractor can pull it but I have some questions

Do I need to change the TC?
If I change the TC should should I change the valve pump to allow more flow to the TC
If I get the GDE hot tune or eco tune will that buy me some time before I do the TC
I do plan on towing it that frequently maybe 4 or 5 times this summer

thanks

Yes you need to change the torque converter first! If you dont have to much miles it might not shutter already, but it will come,so try to do it before a tune, that way you buy some piece of mind.

The stock tc cant handle the hot tune for long, even gde will confirm that! For the valve pump,i cant say,i didnt change my tc yet,low miles on mine and goes find,so i really dont know for this part of the job,but i guess it should be yes, many others can confirm!

And save some money to get the transmission tune if possible, that way you will be able to get more control of it,with the tune you can decide how and where(speed)it locks up!

X2 Stock TC and Hot tune = lots of shudder, then damage. I tried this, but not to the point of replacing the TC or damage.

Ok i found a tranny guy here near me that will do the work for a good price. he said that he has seen the 545RFE tranny many times and that he reccomends doing the valve fix. He actually stocks them.

He Said "They will hone out the valve body and sleve it and install a new valve this way the torque converter will get the correct presure and amount of oil it requires" is this guy talking about the same stuff we read on lost or is he thinking about something else

If your front pump is good, you will get away with just doing the torque converter.
If you pump is not good and the crappy little valve has a soft seat that both Transgo (~$70 front pump and valve body kit) and Sonnax ($1500 for the tool to do it) have fixes for, changing the torque converter will not do any good.
Although you are 90 times more likely to get struck by lightening than win the $640,000,000 jackpot, in my opinion, buying a lottery ticket would be less risky than putting in a converter with out fixing the front pump.

Good luck either way.

He may have bought the $1500 Sonnax tool and already made his money back.
Good fix that works. Go for the Suncoast and you will have a great torque converter.
