SO, I was lazy and already halfway there so i pulled the head off.and apart from finding all but one of the lifters,(I think they are lifters), destroyed. This was pretty interesting too. The number 4 cylinder looks like it had been not burning well for a while? WTF?



Also here is a closeup. The tip of the glowplug missing.

This makes sense. Your #4 glow plug tip broke off and must have caused a valve to stick open until the piston hit it, which then caused the rocker arm(s) to fail. Due the the valves no opening properly in #4 the injected fuel burned very poorly causing the soot build up and "wet" look. Make sure the valves are all seated properly, you might only need new rockers, gaskets, head bolts and glow plugs to get it back up an running. Not very cheap, but it could have been worse.

Seemed fine. I don't know though. this is my first and only liberty.

How do i know if the rings are bad or not. I guess as far as i have the motor out now, i should just pull it all the way and pull that piston and inspect the sleeve. What do you think?

hi,i had the P0299 code and it was a broken vacuum whose that action the turbo, so there was very limited power. No black smoke though.

OK so now that I have this motor apart and I am working on her already. Can I take ALL this EGR crap off and how do I i do that, what has to stay and what can go. Also what other mods do i have to make while i am in here. I don't want to have to do this again.

If you have a GDE tune or a SEGR to eliminate the CEL with the EGR removed, then get rid of the EGR crossover tube behind the engine, blank off the ports at the exhaust manifold and intake elbow, lose the EGR valve, loopback the EGR coolant lines and call it good. The blank off plate at the exhaust mani would be the perfect place for an EGT probe if one were so inclined.
I'd hot tank that intake/valve cover and get all the gunk out of the ports and install 7V metal glow plugs.

it's a cleaning tank at an automotive machine shop - strips the block down to bare metal
it's the first step on a rebuild process.
after that they can start checking for cracks & damage.
