Yeah, I'm not sure what all the real issues are. I've read that higher diesel prices are keeping some auto manufactures from following through. Others say that cars with the diesel option don’t sell as well as their gasoline partners do. Some say that new gasoline/hybrid technology is the way of the future. VW told a friend of mine that they can’t keep up with current product of diesel applications overseas; therefore, they don’t expand their diesel applications in the United States since the majority of U.S. customers buy gasoline over diesel. I’ve also read that the United States general culture considers automobiles as throw away items. Because of this ideology, Americans keep a car for 3-6 years and trade it in, hence why people don’t want to invest into a higher priced diesel option. Other than the love for diesel, many Americans don’t see the short term or longer term benefit. Unless you tow an RV or other heavy loads, there’s not a huge market for diesel.
Could this mentality change over time? Some say yes, others say no. With the current global economy, you would think people would look at buying vehicles differently. But as an expert in human behavior and Gifted Education, I can tell you that many Americans are not logistical thinkers.
