Something new today. The throttle on my '05 CRD stuck at wide open. The wife called and asked me to come and get the Jeep from a dirt field as that was were she ditched it when the throttle stuck wide open after a hard acceration. I drove it home and as I approached the driveway, I floored it. Sure enough, it stuck WOT. I turned off the ignition and coasted into the drive. The pedal was all the way on the floor, but after about 10 seconds it popped back up and I drove it into the shop. Any recommendations?

When mine did it, it was the floor mat, an easy fix.

+1 I had the exact same thing happen.

A common but very serious issue with factory floor mat. If it is not properly secured, it can shift and get under the pedal.

Yep, I've experienced it a couple of times with aftermarket floor mats. They creep up and get jammed at the side of the pedal. Now, if it was a Toyota I'd have driven it off the road and claimed it was out of control but since it's a Jeep I just reach down and give the mat a yank :ROTFL:

I wish it were that simple, but the mat is about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom of the pedal when at full throttle. I have the heavy Jeep brand mats that are held in place by a clip attached to the carpet. When it stuck yesterday, the mat was where it normally lays and the pedal was flat against the floor. I am going to pull the peddle assembly and see if something has gotten into the mechanical parts causing it to jam.

Both the 05 and 06 CRDs are throttle by wire (the gasser apparently still uses a cable as there is a hole with a grommet for the cable). The drive by wire system uses 2 sensors (1 on each side of the pedal) to sense the pedal position and apply the appropriate amount of throttle. The top portion of that assembly is hidden behind a black plastic trim panel but there should be some sort of spring to return the pedal to the upright postion once your foot is removed. I know mine has a lot of upward pressure and snaps back up smartly.
