For those of you who drilled into the undercarriage, what is the 'dressing' protocol to prevent rust.

Also I am trying to decipher what is pictured in the Mopar side rail instructions that shows some kind of hand file or press with the drilled hole. Any ideas? I think it may be to debur the hole?

Also what primer/paint protocol do you follow, spray primer and let dry for a day before continuing the install once the holes are drilled?[/code]

When I drilled holes for my tranny skid I didnt do anything. Kinda weird you ask this b/c I took it off yesterday to see if it was rusting and it was not. I did have to primer my bumper where I drilled holes for my lights.

Jeepster,

How long have you had the tranny skid on for?

I would have to prime/paint mine given the large amount of rain and humidity we get annually. Any suggestions on how to properly protect the drill points?

Fortunately, we don't have that much salt on the roads during winter.

I put on a hitch and a new chrome ball mount about 2 months ago and it is showing rust already.

I used Rust Bullet (http://www.rustbullet.com/EngineeringData/engData.htm) for my Spyder diff guard and All J tranny skid. I scuffed up the powder coating on the diff guard first, and ordered the tranny without powder coating. I then spray painted them with black rustoleum, then with just flat black. I live up in the northeast with a lot of salt, so rust is always a problem. This might work, or it may have been a big waste of time! I'll let you know...

I hear raves about POR15, This summer plan on undercoating with this stuff. I'm going to the the drive shafts and everything since it works on rusty metal too.

Haha, about 4 months. It was really hot outside and I didnt feel like cleaning it up at the time. Ill take it back off this summer some time and paint it.

I would not spray the driveshafts with undercoating.

Ditto. Would cause vibrations, even a thin coat of paint could.
