I have searched the forums and have read all about the Frankenlift, Rusty's, Skyjacker, Rockfather, etc. lifts, but haven't seen anything on the Rough Country brand 3" lift. Does anyone know anything about it? Ride quality, CV joint probs., etc.

Rough Country puts out some great products, just wondering how the KJ lift stacks up to the trail proven kits?

Personally, I haven't heard anything about it. Furthermore, if I was in the market for a Lift kit, I would get one that I know is already proven by the many resources (users) on this board.

I am using the RC lift. If I had it to do over again, I would probably go with Rusty's lift for just a few more dollars. With the stock upper control arms the ball joint will hit the spring when flexing. The rear springs only gave me about an inch of lift. I called RC and they sent some 2" poly spacers. I have heard that RC has changed the rear springs and so it may not be a problem anymore. My stock struts are still holding up, but I have heard of others needing to replace the struts after a short time. The rear shocks that come with it seem to be pretty good. I really like the ride with them. I had problems getting the alignment correct until I installed Al's upper control arms. It really looks good though.

Now you know why we don't talk about the RC 3".

No experience with rough country on a KJ, but I had a rough country on my first jeep, MJ (comanche) and I would not recommend their springs. They do work. They flexed OK, but not very well. The ride was nice and stiff, but I had to slow down on really bumpy dirt roads. The springs just aren't that great.

Now I have rusty's 3" springs on my XJ and know first hand why not to go with RC. Rusty's springs are just much higher quality. The ride is superior, hands down. I can fly on bumpy dirt roads, no problem. The same roads that I had to slow down on with the RC springs, no issue with the rusty's. And the springs flex out much better!! If you want a nice ride, go rusty's.

I have the RC lift. Same deal with the rear spacer,, had to call,, and they sent it out no charge. After a while the front struts failed,, but I've been wheeling it,, so . It's one of the lowest cost lifts, and for the amount of wheeling I do, which is not that much,, the lift has done well. As for the ball joint hitting the spring,, that will only happen when the front tire is hanging in mid air,,, and it's actually the ball joint housing that contacts the lift spacer,, no big deal. The ride is good and it flexes well. An adequate lift for the price.

I have that lift, and they changed the springs... and i love my Rough Country its works great.. we flexed it our to where my back tire was completely off the ground. and it only rubbed on one wheel well.. back right.. so its all good for me!!

I installed the rough country on the wifes about 9 months ago. I have no complaints. I am in the process of replacing all the front end parts that are starting to go ba. i don't believe this can be blamed on the lift. since every article i reAD DESCRIBES THE SAME PROBLEMS. TOO BAD JEEP BUILT SUCH A LIGHT DUTY VEHICLE. We wheel the Liberty frequently and enjoy it very much.

I installed a Rough Country 3" lift In my 2004 KJ almost a year ago. Seems to be a good fit. Although I do seem to bottom out a little more then with the stock setup. Of course it may be that with the extra height I'm traveling a little quicker over rough ground. The ride was a little stiffer but not enough to worry about.

The liberty is actually very HD. The only thing I can think of that jeep screwed up on is the ball joints. The front upper and lower a-arm are bigger than most on 1500 trucks, the cv shafts seem to be nice and tough, and the steering seems to do good also. The tie-rods and ends are bigger than most other suvs also. The struts need to be replaced with a lift, maybe thats your problem?

I also installed this kit about a year ago, and recently check my ball-joints and they were fine, i did take about 3 hours to installed in my garage.
