Yeah.. I agree about the diesel part.. But here is the problem with diesels in the US.. Image!! Plain and simple.. When GM brought out their crap SB350 Diesel convertion during the early 80s (My grandfather bought a 81 Pontiac with one in it), people bought them then realized how much problems they had with it... It killed the idea of a diesel in cars here in the US.. Just until recently with the introduction of the CRD and VW's efforts, diesels are starting to get a positive image... Everyone knew Diamler Benz made a good diesel but the average joe couldn't afford to buy a Benz... Hopefully, the Liberty CRD and others will make people see positive about diesels...

Ben

Wow. I really like it. I bought my KJ as a more practical replacement for my 01 TJ when my kids were born. If this had been on the lot - it would have been a tough choice. I do like my KJ, though.

Ditto. But now that I have the CRD, the diesel has really ruined other choices for me. I think that after driving the diesel Liberty, and if I could have driven the new 4-Door Wrangler - I probably still would have gone for the diesel - it's just too good of a deal to pass up on (at least for now).

You just know they are going to crank out another 10 years on this new Wrangler body style, I can't wait to see them driving all over the place and hopefully with a diesel in the new future - then I'll really be tempted to loose a crap load of money and try to trade into one. :D

Actually, on second thought, keep my CRD and trade the wife's Sienna!

Trade the Sienna! Trade the Sienna!!

I don't plan to get rid of my CRD KJ until the odo hits 1/2 million. After that I'll think about pulling the motor and putting it into a crawler buggy. :-) I'm with you AllJeep, I'm ADDICTED to this engine. I'll never get gas again!

When my wife's Nissan passes away, we'll be getting another diesel. I would love it if DC had more diesel engines and diesel models available to choose from by that point. But buying another CRD KJ wouldn't hurt my feelings one little bit either.

With the current price of fuel $2.85 for regular in Indianapolis, IN, if DCX wants to sell more units they need to offer the diesel in more models. Most carr companies are saying hybrid...hybrid...hybrid, but all they are doing is taking an existing engine and slapping a battery and electric motor in it. The engine itself still burns the same amount of fuel. They haven't improved on anything yet. The diesel is an improvement because it does consume less fuel. They figured this out in Europe a long time ago. That is why they offer a diesel version in most of our favorite models over there, but not here. With the way that prices are going up I think the gov and hopefully some of the auto manufacturers will realize that we need vehicles that consume less fuel without sacrificing the performance.

Does a diesel actually conserve enough fuel to justify the added cost and the higher price for fuel?

Diesel is either the same, or slightly higher in the winter out here. Right now it's 30 cents per gallon cheaper than 87 octane gas and the difference is growing. Wait until July and August 8)

I was able to negotiate a lower price on a diesel, compared to a hybrid, so I paid far less for a diesel 4x4 than a hybrid car...

I think at a minimum we can break even with a diesel vs. hybrid but have WAY more capability with the diesel (trailer towing, 4x4, ect.)

With a diesel you get longevity also - - so if you put a lot of miles on and keep it a long time you will get your $$$worth....................can't get them here in NY though.
