Sitting at a set of lights, waiting for an opportunity to turn, when all of a sudden there is a loud pop from the front of my vehicle. Right out of the blue. I have no problems driving and/or getting power when I lay on the pedal. No leaking under the vehicle. I am thinking a hose of some degree, or a cap with too much pressure, but nothing visual from looking under the hood. Once time permits I will do an under inspection and really feel out all hoses and see what turns up.

Has anybody else experienced this pop?

Peace,

SS

Good question. I will attempt to find out on the way home. What would have happened to the A/C to cause this pop??

Overpressure safety valve on the AC, could be the source of this... Unless you are living in Alaska, I can't imagine that you weren't using your AC both before and after the noise, as much of the country is suffering a massive heat wave right now.

Where are you located?

A/C is working fine. I live in Edmonton AB. Could it have been anything with TC or anything else that may not have disengaged or engaged late/in time? I know I have been getting a harder shift at the 63mph point, but I cannot imagine this would all be related. But who knows, this vehicle is a mystery indeed. Thanks for all the past posted replies.

Peace.

This happened to me a long time ago. Just driving along and then heard a VERY loud noise like I ran over something metallic laying on the road. I even looked in my rear view mirrors to see if there was something on the road! The road was clear though, and it puzzled me for a while.

It took some time, but the engine slowly (over a few months) started making a "vibrating/grinding noise" when I was stopped and idling. It started as a very light vibration/noise, but then got worse. It eventually felt like something was grounding out in the front end.

It ended up being a broken right engine mount.

When I removed it, the inside was loose and I figure it let go during the "big noise".

You can use a stethoscope/screwdriver/long metal thing to listen to the engine mount while the Jeep is at idle. If the mount is broken, you should hear it making some noise (rattle and/or similar noise). It is sometimes worse while in gear (drive or reverse depending on which side is broken).

There are many older posts on this subject that you can dig up with a search. The symptoms vary with different people and vehicles.

I also ended up replacing the left mount some time later, but it never "let go" like the right one. The mounts were (at the time) pretty cheap from the dealer too.

For reference, here is one of the threads I was involved in: viewtopic.php?p=346152#346152

You might find this thread interesting too (a report about disassembling a broken mount):

Good luck.

The mounts are available online as well, and yes, they are fairly cheap - For a few more bucks in savings, buy JUST the passenger / right side mount for both, and simply remove the heat shield from the one that you plan to install on the left / driver's side. I don't know why the one with the extra part is less expensive, but there it is.

The passenger mount isn't that hard to change, the driver's side is a bit more of a pain b/c of the bottom bolt being mostly blocked. I suppose this could be your noise too.

After going over some speed bumps and hearing a clunking sound I have purchesed new motor mounts. Start there and see if this solves the issue. Thanks for the replies and helpful advice. Will update with results after installation.

Peace.
