Farily inexpensive (~$130 depending on size), nice tread, nice handling, and super quiet on the road. These were important factors to me, since even though I wheel, my tires see more asphalt than dirt. Plus, they will not fair as bad as an M/T R as far as gas mileage goes.

I got my Goodyear MT/R's for $135 Mounted and balanced each and love em! And with the Frankenlift and 245's i only noticed about 1-2 mpg drop in fuel economy on the highway...

I love my loud noisy MT/R's no matter if they are a "mud" tire or "at". They really are very bearable to me at highway speeds, they have CRAZY grip on the rocks, loose rocks, wet roads, dry roads, etc. I can't say how they compare to others first hand but I know that if I have to buy tires again before I hand off the KJ to the old lady I will get the MT/R's.

i am the sales manager at a goodyear store and feel that i am not a moron so i hope my advise will be helpful. first, the mtr's were originally designed for rock crawling. i have seen a few sets that were destroyed being used as daily drivers. however, that doesn't mean that every set will do that. my pic and what i run on my kj are the new wrangler's with silent armor technology. they have kevlar in them to soften the ride. the sidewalls feature the same technology found in the mtr's. they also have a 50k tread life warranty. i think you will have a very tough time finding any other offroad tire to compete with that. i also went to goodyears test track in ohio and compared the wrangler to bfg's tako tire. on the courses there was no comparison. i also read in a post that a 245/75/16 tire had an e rating. make sure that it has an lt before the size and verify how many plies it has. they make different ply ratings in an "e" tire. hope this is helpful.
