As we all know by now the current KK Liberty will see it's final days in production come to a halt in August and the new one beginning production in Oct 2012 for a 2013 Release. We have all seen the photos of the test mule and naturally everyone is very curious on what the next generation Libby will or will not be.

AllPar has a pretty good page of some additional details and renderings as well as a couple of more spy shots to keep us interested until the debut in the fall.

http://www.allpar.com/SUVs/jeep/2014-cherokee.html

Some of the original dates are confusing on the Liberty page. The main Jeep page has the corrected production dates

Yeah converting everything jeep from distinguished and a diverse fleet of vehicles to a clone of a WK2 is a smart idea.... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I understand fiat wants to change the image to make things more profitable, but having the entire fleet looking identical is not smart.

It looks like the front end of the 2012 Jeep Compass mated with the rear end of a BMW X3. Its not bad looking. I actually like it for a cross-over vehicle. Just not what I think of for the Jeep brand. But cross-overs are what sell, so I guess thats what makes decisions.

I really feel that a new Liberty must have some cargo capability more than just strong roof racks. Being tall I feel headroom must not be sacrificed otherwise
it will be just like any other Japanese style crossover. Great gas mileage and better trouble-free suspension are important necessities for the Jeep brand to
survive and be competitive.

The Toledo plant that builds the Liberty will be shut down on Aug. 16th. Retooling will then take place and will probably finish in the Q1 2013. Whatever they call it (Liberty/Cherokee) they'll probably be out my2014.

Yes, it's very car-like, that's why it's an AWD 3.2L 9-speed auto and supposed to get 30 mpg.

gonna have to be VERY capable... I'm seeing an AWD car with a Jeep badge. 30mpg's is nice but what's the point if you can't hit some trails? I can slap a 'trail rated' sticker on my wife's Miata by that standard.

I read that it would be very similar to the current Patriot in off-road ability. The Patriot is trail rated as well.

I bet the little Fiat Jeep photographed on the Allpar site would be a hit in USA if they would sell it here.
And if F?C up sized that styling to a slightly larger model, then this new model would become a best seller.

A Crossover and no longer an SUV.

Only thing left that is a "Jeep" is a Wrangler and it's offshoots (Rubicon). All other models have become CARS.

That’s very true. Crossovers are taking over a large chunk of the market. Even the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be a crossover to a large degree. Yes, it is built on the Durango platform, but I consider the Durango a crossover. Jeep has made my future vehicle (the Wrangler) an easy choice.

Agree.......... Maybe they need to do it to survive as most buyers don't off-road.

But I wish they would have left the Liberty alone and not made it a "crossover car". They could have kept the Lib as a more capable model with more traditional style to carry stuff and tow stuff and fairly off-road capable and then made the "crossover" for everyone else. They would be different enough and appeal to different segments of the buying public and they should both sell well. (crossover car buyers and Jeep buyers) And besides they still have the JK as the most capable off-roader.

Anyway, looks like my next Jeep will be a JK.

Indeed. I have lots of life left in the Liberty as I'm only at 40,000 miles, but when it's time to replace, it'll have to be a Wrangler...unless they screw that up in the future as well.

Let us all scream out and hope that enough reaction will change Fiat / Crysler designs for the future. :(

If that pic of the liberty/Cherokee is accurate, they should remove the seven slot grille, it isn't a jeep. What they should've done was make the fender wells bigger to accomadate 33" tires and put a solid axel under it. Other than that, leave it alone. The sales on that thing COULDN'T have been bad. Has anyone noticed how many libertys are on the road? Why ruin it by turning it into a car. Shame on fiat. I would concede and say they were following the money but I don't think they are. There are already two of this type of crossovers, there isn't room for a third IMO. At least Chrysler didn't compete with themselves. I could go on but I'd probably be preaching to the choir lol. Hopefully mopar reads this. I'm even more hopeful that the pic is a guess or decoy. :JEEPIN:
