These days, upon returning to his car that had been setup like that, he would have found the criminal standing with the cops, waiting to arrest YOU for endangering HIM while he was trying to steal your stuff.

The sad part is - The cops probably WOULD arrest you, for making an "illegal booby trap" and might even let criminal stupid walk away.

that is so true and very wrong with our justice system. something in your locked car is is not public and they should not be there taking stings with out permission. Anything that happened to them in the course of committing a crime should be on them. but even if a crook trips on your porch steps on the way out with your 50" plasma TV and breaks his spine he can sue you.

I had an issue when I was in my 20's with car stereos getting stolen. my sherwood pull up cd player got pulled out for me. same with the next Kenwood model, then i got a tape deck and trunk changer. That got taken too. The police told me that it was someone that probably knew me well enough to know what I had. He suggested to just spread the rumor that the replacement was booby trapped but not actually do it for the stated reasons. guess what it was never stolen again!

Well at least we don't have to worry about them slide-hammering the ignition key out and driving away. Only CRD's have the RF ID tag inside the key. No ID and the security shuts down the engine. (Ask me how I know).

Now on the gassers, it will be vapor.

I wish we DIDN'T have that dang system... It has caused my remote starter to fail yet again, probably b/c of the crappy antenna design they used. I've never heard of a car NOT being stolen solely b/c of that system, it certainly hasn't helped on the luxury cars that have them. If the thief wants your car... They get it. Either with a $2500 repo-tow rig attachment to a regular pickup truck, or a real tow truck that is a LOT easier to steal with just a slimjim and a screwdriver.

It is like them encrypting the vehicle-specific ECU and TCM softwares... Doesn't stop high-level thieves from doing anything, just makes legit owners modding their rides annoyed.

I didn't "license" the vehicle from the manufacturer... I BOUGHT it. If I want to mod the ignition system to start when I whistle near the engine... That is my business.

My 2002 Limited 3.7 had the RFID in the key as well. I don't know if it was an option or what, but when it starts, there is a Key symbol on the dash.
