Good day.

I am attempting to change out my glow plugs in my 06 kj but am getting so frustrated as I am unable to find them. I know there is a cap ontop that provides power for them but I can not see any object on the engine that looks like a cap covering the glow plug. If anybody has a diagram showing locations or pictures of actual locations from their own install I would much appreciate them. I have the 06 kj manual but I am stumped where to find glow plugs in the darn thing. Thanks.

Peace.

They are under the intake manifold on the drivers' (left) side of the motor. Number 3 is hard to get to as there is a vertical inlet pipe in the way.

Have you read SAMS NOOB Guide?......lots of pictures of components there. :)

What glow plugs will you be using?
The original plugs for your model are 7 volt ceramics but you will struggle to find them anywhere as they have been replaced with 5 volt ones.
When you put in the 5 volt ones you at the same time have to replace the glow plug controller and have the ECM re-programmed before putting voltage on the plugs. Or you can use the 7 volt metallic ones supplied by an Italian company which has had good reviews.

Do a search on this forum for glow plugs or simply space down and look for the topic.....there recently was a whole explanation of how to replace the plugs with good pictures. :D

Billwill,

Thanks for the quick reply. I will look around the intake manifold asap. I had read the newbie guide a couple years ago and just refreshed my mind again. However there are no pictures for the glow plug locations there. I also have been doing some extensive search on this forum for the info I look for, and yes there are some good write ups, but none really get into gp locations or pictures other then for #3 gp. I have the 7v metal. Thanks.

Peace.

If your alternator is on the right (as viewed from the front) top side of the (left hand "US" style drive) then shine a light diagonally down across the back side of the alternator and just in front of the intake. You will see a small vertical pipe and behind it a round (about 3/8" across) rubber cap with a wire coming off it. That's glow plug #1 the others are in line running back to the firewall from there.
