Just found out today:

Quote:
...the carmaker is expected to launch a Jeep Liberty replacement in 2013, and it is working on a newly developed nine-speed automatic transmission for its new midsize front-wheel-drive platform. It's designed for hybrid and all-wheel-drive systems, and the Jeep Liberty replacement will ride on this new platform. The 3.2-liter engine [...] is likely a modified version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne told the Detroit Free Press that the new Liberty will "be a Trail-Rated, full-blooded Jeep that has its origins in the architecture of a sports car."

Things that make you go "Hmmmm..." (kind of Subaru-like AWD, still no diesel, car-like body frame???)

It is entirely possible that I won't be rushing out to buy one of those.

Sports car /= trail rated ANYTHING.
car-body /= Jeep
FWD /= AWD or even 4wd, and CERTAINLY is not a true 4wd with a locking transfer case.
Using a modified version of the Pentastar engine? The one with all the problems? Sure, that sounds like a FABULOUS idea! (Wet from all the sarcasm there yet?)

Not even REMOTELY interested in a car with Jeep badges on it, even IF anyone in my family was going to EVER be the owner of another MOPAR product. Not a chance in hell.

That has been in the rumor mill for some time. It is not very inspiring to say the least. there will be no small SUV with a real transfer case I guess but most drivers don't go off road or modify the vehicle for better off road like many here do. They just have a 4X4 to get about in bad weather or to look cool so a AWD crossover is all those need and its what sells.

What is the point of doing away with the Liberty? I have not liked the new Liberty design since the 2008's started anyhow, but it seems stupid to go away from the basic 4x4 design of it. Besides, they already have the Compass and the Patriot which are toned down I thought... Another BRILLIANT (sarcastic comment, in case anyone was wondering...) decision/move by Chrysler...

The only good Liberty's were built in 2003, 2005, and 2006, and have a CRD badge on them...

Just my opinion.

I had a 2000 TJ with 4" Lift, Rhino Lined Interior, Powder Coated Frame, Bumpers/winch/lightbar, etc. that I did all myself and it just wasn't a daily driver (got promoted) and it wasn't really a family (new baby) vehicle at that time in my life, so I traded it in on the CRD.

Don't get me wrong, I'll have another Wrangler, but I'll probably build it this time how I like it from the beginning. Hell I'm considering building one with a CRD in it.
