Hi, all,

My fuel guage seems to be way off the mark. If I drive until 3/4 of a tank remains, then top it off, I use 9 gallons of fuel to do that. It would be nice to have a tank that had 36 gallons of capacity, but I don't.

Then the last 1/4 tank gets drained in a matter of 10s of miles. It's as if the sender is logarithmic, but the gauge is linear. Anyone else have this issue? It would be nice to know that the thing is at least in the ballpark.

Possible faulty sensor, or was installed improperly. Looking at your signature I think you have a 2005 so you should be able to have the dealer look at it and fix it free of charge cause i am sure it is covered under warranty.

Fuel gauges on cars have never been accurate, but you shouldn't be able to fit 9 gallons in when the gauge says 3/4....

Generally the gauges err in the other direction, ie, saying empty but I can only put 17 gallons in, despite having a 21 gallon tank.

I have an 05 and it will take about 6 gallons when it is a quarter down. Full tank also registers above the full mark when full.

I'm tired of the gauge saying that I have 1/4 tank left then only putting in 10 gallons and suddenly the tank is topped off...

I usually go at least a week(or 100miles) when I get down to a 1/4 of a tank.

yeah, on my wife's '04 we had the same problem. When she was empty on the guage she'd go to fill up, and only got 13 or 14 gallons in it. So really she had 6 gallons left...enough to get her 100 miles. But the guage showed dead empty. We took it to the dealership and went around and around with them. After weeks of trips there and replacing sending unit, body control module, recalibrating the instruments, etc...we finally gave up and said to heck with it.

Fortunately, my '05 seems to be much more accurate. When my low fuel light comes on, I only have 2 gallons or less left. Although...I will say the needle falls much faster after it passes the half way point. That must be because of the shape of the fuel tank.
