SOLVED-
Finally found an old mechanic that diagnosed the problem in an hour. 3 broken rockers. I had 2 other mechanics tell me up and down this couldnt be the problem but that what is it. The kicker, no evidence of slipped timing. Not going to dwell on the issue, just glad to have it back.

If you need help in Northern Utah go see the Larry Miller Chrysler dealership in Bountiful, ask for Tina. They were incredibly good to work with, unlike Hinckley Dodge who sucked. And I mean sucked!

OLD Message---

Well now I am just plain stumped, my mechanic has thrown up his hands.
To be brief- Cranks but will not start, no codes being displayed. Ran till it was parked and then very intermittent or not.

Using a "noid" light it appears the injectors are not firing. Sometimes it will show a single pulse of light then nothing.

Over the space of a few months this is what has been done.

Cam Sensor replaced - This was due to a code
Cam timing verified - dealership said the problem was it was out of time, went ahead and did a belt change, was in perfect time. On one hand I am relieved that the lifters are not destroyed but what a waste if I cant fix this.
Fuel Pump tested- While it was out for the belt change had it bench checked by the Bosch rep, was found perfect.
Crank Sensor replaced - was done out of frustration.
Fuel pressure sensor - Checked and found to be reporting 1.5-1.9v while cranking which should be 300 BAR.
Fuel pressure solenoid - Does not pass fuel in 10 seconds of cranking.
#4 plug verified to be in #4 and not in Pressure sensor.

The sensor testing was done with a scope and checked at the sensor and at the computer plug.

I don't know what else is in the system that would keep the injectors from firing.

300 bar is about 4,350 psi... that seems pretty close to the cut off (where the injectors won't fire). Have you asked the dealer or found some reference as to the minimum required before the ECM will signal the injectors? On the Cummins, I thought it was around 4k.. too close for comfort under the circumstances.

Beyond that, good battery, good grounds.

If you can find someone with a DRBIII - you can trigger injectors individually (etc) and learn much more about what's going on inside.

Mark

x2 on the good grounds and DRB insight

Also, in your wiring harness analysis, have you looked at the Coolant Temperature Sensor? I have see other FI cars, Volvos specifically, that would not start at points due to a faulty CTS.

I trust that somewhere in all of this that the fuel head was bled to remove any air in the system

Is your ASD relay energizing?
Try swapping the ASD relay with one next to it. :?

Wow good tips,
To answer some of the comments, I was told that 250 BAR is the cutoff on pressure but I can verify.

ASD relay? That is a new one, help me understand what you are proposing.

I thought about the Coolant Temp Sensor, I think it has more to do with the glow plug time then the injector firing. I will check it out to make sure.

Thanks for the info.

The Auto Shut Down relay (ASD) gets energized by the ECM if it is happy that certain things are in order.....if it does not energize you will not get fuel pump, injectors etc. running.

It sits in the fuse/relay section under the hood....the plastic cover has a decal on it telling you which is the ASD relay.
You need to see if this relay is getting power and is in fact energizing and you can swap it out with a similar relay to see if the relay is faulty.

Do you have the symbol of a "key" with a line through it coming ON solid or flashing? This is assuming you have the SKIS immobiliser system fitted.

A fellow forum member here has just traced his no start problem to rodents chewing the wiring coming out of the ECM into the firewall....check your wiring looks intact. :?

I do not have SKIM on this car so no worries there.
Swapped the ASD relay no change.

Looking back at codes the only reliable code I see is the P0-340 camshaft sensor. It has been replaced and tested showing a signal a nice square wave at the sensor and the computer plug.

What about a dead cylinder? Low compression cause a problem like this?

EXCELLENT! Glad to hear that you got the tractor back and running too. I guess that it was never discussed about mechanical issues. I fail to understand how three rockers could give up with out an issue affecting the other thirteen.

Yeah tell me about it, could be a tension-er? Replaced all of that so hopefully done. I did some searches and found rocker problems around 100k for various issues. I had serpentine belt issues that I monkeyed with for the last 5k that I cant help think played in this. Should have replaced the serpentine tensioner when the alternator clutch failed. For the want of a nail the battle was lost.

Thanks for your advice appreciate the help
