have a shop compress them, do the rear while they are doing them.
easy enough

Ah....Tom, Tom, Tom. The ever-present, all-knowing nay-sayer. We all appreciate your expertise and advice, however there are several considerations to be made.
1) I'm not sure we can find a shop open on Sat. that could do the coil swap.
2) I'm not sure those that have just spent hard earned money on lifts would be willing to pay a shop to swap coils for them and then pay for an allignment.
3) And, finally, having successfully done the swap with Colin's compressors on CRD coils I'm sure we could do it successfully one more time.
Besides, beyond drilling holes in your Jeep to make it yours, actually doing the difficult things to modify it yourself is highly rewarding as well as empowering, not to mention cost effective, as well you should know.
Keep providing your input, as it does make people think about what their options are. But as an old Boy Scout once said....."if it were easy Girl Scouts could do it".

Most shops will do it for like 20 bucks and I am sure sixth ditch would do it for even less if not free. I understand the reward of doing it yourself did mine with a back hoe and a length of chain. But there is always one way then the safe way I have seen the rental coil compressors with bent rods cracked holding blocks and in much need of just being scraped. Plus all of that should be factored into doing your lift especially the alignment.

Suggestions were just being made to possibly help speed things up. Getting two lifts done in a day is some work but very doable if you want to help some people out.
Now,...Nay sayer huh now that there is funny, didn't know you were a comedian these days :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
well let me jot your name down for future reference when we have a get together again
Plus if you ever saw a set of those cheap compressors start to bend, then break, taking off half of someones face, you'd really think again about them
The ones you rent have been bent, beat on etc and you don't know when they may let loose, just something to think about.
Just trying to help, and must be why lots ask for help daily
Have a nice day and to the OP, yep should of came this way as you originally talked about earlier in the year, Sorry :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Looking forward to seeing you at Coal Creek, Tom.
I agree, rental compressors are tentative, at best. However, Colins have only been used for two lifts and never banged on, bent or broken. If dgeist can get Sixditch to do it for free I'm sure he will, but they aren't open on Saturdays, and aren't known for freebies.
Keep the comments and advice coming, and don't take my lame attempts at humor seriously. Besides, a healthy discourse of opposing viewpoints is what America is all about. And as my father used to say..."I may not agree with what you have to say, but I shall fight to the death for your right to say it".

Look at all the fun I missed by being away for the weekend!!!

We have done 5-sets of coils with the coil compressors I have (1 x OME Mediums, 3 x OME HDs, and 1 x CRDs) with few problems [though I will NEVER do a set of OME HDs with hand-tools EVER again!!!] and they have held up just fine. Being patient and careful (and some good bailing-wire LOL) helped too!!!

I am not particularly concerned about Dan's install since he is doing a CRD Frankenlift where the struts should be coming preassembled. John and I have been talking about bringing the air-tools and pancake compressor to ATL from Athens and doing Dan's lift at his place such that "should something go wrong" (knock on wood...) his CRD is not stuck 75 miles away from home in Athens.

Sixditch is operating a man down right now; is seriously backed up; and are working to build my front steel IFS; so they are not available to take on any additional KJ work right now.

As for alignments... :-)r I had to go all the way to Athens before I found someone who could do the alignment on the KJ properly!!! Finding someone to do alignments on lifted vehicles in ATL was just not possible.

Keith, better luck trying to get a hold of us after ECS (Oct 5-8).

Speaking of ECS, are we gonna see you there or not this year, Tom? Ya didn't make it to Harlan, KY (right in your backyard...) last year, so howz about it?

Fyi, I have a compressor, guys, just not a good impact wrench. The real fun should be pressing out the lower control arm bushings (easy in theory...). I have tentative spousal approval for the work once allj ships me the set.

Lets see Atlanta to Harlan whats that like 320-330 miles or so if I remember right ?
Where I live to Harlan, 450 mile, big back yard
Trying to make it but with no work since May 2nd $$s are tight,

Bought my First Harley in 1974 and sold my last one 4 years ago, and like Jeeps started collecting parts in 74
Have 4 early 50's gas tanks,a 1950 FL seat/front and rear fenders, front/rear fenders for a 48
same for a 65 Electra glide and a NOS windshield for it
unmolested 50 frame.........
thats what I can remember off the top of my head, plus numerous smalls
I know there's other stuff as well, well like the Screamin Eagle turn outs that they don't even make anymore , they're hanging on my fence here :banghead: fence art
I think/hope I have it all going to one person, or would like for him to get it
Just got rid of a 48 Panhead motor 4 years ago that still ran like a top :banghead:
Love the sound of them, just sitting ideling :D
Miss having one but don't spend enough time where the curvy roads are to have one right now

Looks like you've got some killer stuff. Good luck with getting rid of it. I'm confident you'll do right by it. And yes, there ain't nothing like the rumble of Milwaukee steel, especially when it's between your legs. It's a shame you don't have the twisty's up there to enjoy. I'm an hour away from the N. Ga. mountains and some killer rides, including the "Tail of the Dragon". The problem we have down here is the heat and humidity. However, the weather is starting to change and it's fixin' to be el primo riding time. Get another one, Tom, and we can meet up somewhere in the hills of Kentucky and "head on down the highway".
John

Ouch! Walked into that one, didn't I? As the older brother to three sisters and the father of a former Girl Scout I have all the admiration and respect in the world for the strengths and abilities of women. I guess this is what I get for being flippant. All I can say is...you go girl!
