After getting home from my trip, I helped a friend change his spark plugs, air filter, and clean his throttle body. Working on his V6 Mazda Tribute (or substitute Ford Escape if you wish, because they're the same) makes me appreciate the engineering of our Jeeps!!! While nothing has been quite as nice as working on the 4.0 I-6 in my old XJ, I really do appreciate how relatively easy it is to get to most things in our 3.7. (with one possible exception: the oil filter).

My friend's engine was mounted transversely, and the rear three spark plugs were located under the intake manifold.

Yes, you read that right-- we had to take OFF the intake manifold, with all of its electrical connectors and vacuum lines in order to change out three spark plugs.

What should have been a 30 minute job took almost 2 & 1/2 hours. No wonder dealerships make lots of money! I did enjoy wrenching on the engine, though, even if it wasn't a Jeep. The misfiring problem he was having is now fixed. Score one for us!
