So if you are 4 wheeling, and say you do some pretty drastic damage to your vehicle, can you claim the damage to your auto insurance company, even though you knowingly took it off road and into some hairy situations?

Ask your agent what is and what is not covered.

My policy covers any damaged occured on a maintained road and all the legal trails here in CO are forest service roads so for me I'm covered, also covered on any trail in any other state if it's published on a map. That's right from my agent, granted he's a good buddy of mine I went to high school with so I get taken care of.

I think its all in how you "relay" the info to your imsurance people. I was with a buddy one night, he took his GMC 2500 (small lift with 35"s) out in the field. We were gonna try a mudhole we had heard about. On the very first run into the pit the truck stuck like a lawndart :ROTFL: all the way to the doors. After trying to pull the thing out with other guys trucks that were there, he called his insurance for some "roadside" help. I was trying so hard to keep from laughing while he explained on the phone how he had slid off the road into this mud that was a good 300ft from the blacktop. I didn't think they would cover it. But, they sent a truck out there and winched it out. He didnt pay a dime.

i just changed my insurance i told them i like to go camping and drove to camp sights that were in the everglades. i asked them if i needed special off road insurance. they replied the vehicle is covered. i have heard that Allstate offers off road coverage my agent said he has never herd of something like that it must be an Allstate thing and he dose not deal with them.

as far as a tow truck i think you usualy have to get your rig to a road for a tow truck to come get you.

I know here in B.C., ICBC covers us on all Forest Service Roads in the province.
Which is pretty much all of the off road access around here.

KeighJeigh poked a rock through his oil pan - insurance covered it - it was a marked county road - it was on the map.

no pavement, no bridges, no lights - but on the map
