I was wondering if anyone has gotten their CRD's inspected since getting the GDE tune. Knowing that the tune disables the EGR and that more nitrogen oxide emissions result, are the emissions high enough (beyond legal/state limits) to alarm the computers during a state inspection?

Here in NV in the 2 county's that require smog inspections, they're looking for visible smoke. They check for it by putting the vehicle on a dyno, revin' er up to speed and using an "opacity meter" to look through the exhaust at the tail pipe. They don't do a chemical analysis of the exhaust as they do for gas powered vehicles. Arizona is the same test in their high population counties.

Fill up with Biodiesel before you get it tested and you'll pass with flying colors

Wait a minute... If you suddenly switch to biodiesel? I thought that you could clog the filter once the sludge in the tank is cut loose. Sorry for the dumb concern, but isn't there a little involved with switching to the bio if you're not already prepared?

Maybe

bio tends to be a solvent for a lot of things that normal diesel has - so if your previous fuel supplier had gunk
the bio will break it loose and it'll clog the filter.

however if your previous supplier was keeping things clean (normally means they pump a lot of volume)
then it's fine.

(however if I switched from the 5% to 95% - I'd carry a spare filter)

I run a tank of b99 during the seasons above freezing about every 2 mos. I also change my fuel filter every other oil change, engine seems to run more smoothly. Once it's at temp you can't hear anything different than a gasser.

Biodiesel actually produces a bit more NOx than dino though less CO and other things.

The previous poster was correct that AZ simply measures opacity while running on a dyno. Beware--our rigs don't like dynos. They buck like crazy and throw CELs. The CELs seem to be temporary however. This year I was fortunate to get a tech that knew this and he gave me an exemption from the test.
