Don't run a diesel, how do they run if the cam belt jumps a tooth?

Regards,

Mikey.

Regarding the odo, most KJ CRDs with stock (225 75) tires go about 10% FARTHER than the odo says. I always add 10% when hand calculating. Your tires are probably about 2% closer to giving you an "accurate" reading.

Interesting...

Regarding all the comments about the smoke, I have the Full Torque Tune, not the Eco Tune. I need to talk to Keith, but I thought the Torque tune would smoke?

Regarding any major issues, what should I look for? I am thinking my injectors are dirty/ or not working right. Would there be a code if the injectors are bad?

Could it be the injection pump? Turbo? I am thinking it is not these items, since it seems to still run strong, and I guess I don't know what "normal" is, since this is the only Turbo Diesel Jeep I have driven, minus a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.0L Diesel. Any way, I have run Diesel Kleen through the tank, and no improvement. I was was highly recommended to try the BG Diesel product in a quart and use the entire contents, so my wife is driving with that in the tank right now, hopefully that will help. I will post results...

You have the ECO tune that does NOT have the temporary, "torque reduction" feature that is designed to work around the problem with the stock TC. That is the only difference between it and the "regular" ECO tune. I have run all the available tunes from IM and GDE on a Dynojet dyno. (Search my posts from a few years ago if you are interested in the details of all the back to back tests I did.) Even at full throttle, the GDE ECO tune does NOT smoke. (IM SII smokes a lot. GDE HOT smokes a little, flat out.)

If you see BLACK smoke behind you with your tune, you are wasting fuel and you are NOT running as Keith intended.

The conclusion that Keith, the mechanic I bring my diesel's to, and I have come up with is this. The EGR valve is stuck/ or gunked up. My extended warranty does not cover emissions related components, so I will tackle this one myself.

See the tips on the site to clean the EGR valve. You probably don't need to replace it. MUCH cheaper than new injectors....

Thanks Doc! Just being lazy, do you have the link for how to clean it? I hear it is a 2hour job minimum...

Mr. altdiesel, do you resolved your " 17 mpg average - STUMPED" issue? I asked to Keith from GDE about cleaning the EGR valve since i have the GDE ECO TUNE, and he told me that i dont need to cleaned, because the ECO TUNE shut off the EGR, and i dont needed any more.Do you resolverd your low mpg problems sir?

Prolly needs a new thermostat. Runs to cool computer will add more fuel. Change thermosat.

wife's libby had a bad thermostat. It smoked a lot. Temp gauge didn't make it to 12:00. Most libbies run just left of 12:00. I noticed that she was filling up a lot. Checked the EVIC, it said 17mpg! I have driven her car many times and got over 22 and much higher on the open road. Put in a new thermostat and all is good now.
What happens is this, the ECU senses that the engine is cold so the viscous heater stays on in cooler weather. Ouch on the fuel consumption with this guy on. With new tstat all is normal and not nearly as much smoke. I have standard tune so it does make a little smoke normally.
Hope this helps

the temp gauge spot just left of 12:00 - is a 40 Degree spot - 176F to 216F - and the needle won't move.
