I went to do a simple brake job this morning and after I pulled off the caliper I noticed the piston is chipped. Has anyone replaced the piston or do you have to replace the whole caliper? Are any special tools needed?

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is probably to simply buy a new caliper assembly. I've rebuilt these assemblies on other vehicles in the past, mainly to get stainless steel pistons. It's not hard just a bit messy. At a quick glance you can get caliper pistons for ca. $10 and the seals for ca. $6 plus of course your effort or you can get a complete assembly for ca. $40 with a limited lifetime warranty (ca. $80 if preloaded with pads). Prices from O'Reilly's.

For the ca. $25 difference between the parts with no warranty on the reassembled part and the assembled caliper with warranty I wouldn't waste my time on rebuilding.

That is exactly what I found out and did.

Thanks for replying.
