Hi all!
I'm loving my Liberty CRD. I recently got GDE's HOT tune and am impressed with the added torque and efficiency. It has among other good things given me the courage to tow relatively heavy loads over the local mountain pass that gives me easy access to the western part of the state (Vermont). Long hills, tight hairpins and lack or shoulders...an excellent road for sports cars and motorcycles, a little hairy for towing at the limit.
So last week I experienced an oddity and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences. For the duration of the climb I locked the transmission in "2" to keep the power band strong and the water pump pumping fast. It worked great; plenty of power (around 2500-3000 rpm) and a fairly light foot at that rate...easy going. At some point it seemed like the torque converter clutch was locking up, or at least trying to. The revs dropped to around 2000 or lower and it lost the ability to rev higher as I add more right foot. This made me quite nervous, as there are few places to turn a loaded car hauler around up there. I also noted that vibration feeling that only occurs in lockup (I replaced the original torque converter with the burly Mopar unit). I was under the impression that TCC lockup never occurs in 2nd gear. I haven't yet tried to make the climb in "D" and just let the computer sort it out.
Has anyone felt this? Is it normal? Any recommendations for troubleshoot or remedy the "problem"?
Next time I have to tow over the App Gap (as it is called) I will try "D" instead of "2" and report back on the results.
Thanks,
Paul
