Ask Kevin at Green Diesel Engineering, he makes tunes for both vehicles (CRD & VWtdi). Maybe the one he uses on our CRD's is the same for the Tdi's.

Keith at GDE has a reader that will handle engine codes. I don't know of any "affordable" reader that will read all the codes on the kludge computer systems on the 05/06 CRD or gasser for that matter.

Get a vag-com for your TDI and it's OBDii mode works fine on our CRD engines :SOMBRERO:
Nothing affordable will do things to our CRD's like the VAG-COM will with VW's :dizzy:

I have a vag-com, now known as "VCDS", and it works fine on my 06 CRD for engine related stuff.

If you've got an Android device I'd recommend a Bluetooth ELM327 device and the Torque app. I find my CRD is more compatible with it than any other scanner I've tried.

Have you used this on other vehicles? I have a 2006 Honda in addition to my jeep and have been trying to decide which code reader to get. I was looking at the 3160B this morning (like the ABS,SRS capabilities) but am still feel somewhat under-educated.

My 3160 only works for brake codes on our '05. Use 3130 for engine codes.

Interesting. Does the 3130 read any other codes or just engine? Is there one that will do most codes that is around the $200-300 range?

Unfortunately, only engine, but it is low priced and works reliably. (Make sure you go by the codes listed on this site, NOT the ones in the scanner guide. They vary.) BTW, the 3160 I have does not always work for brake codes and NEVER works for anything else. The poster referenced a "3160b". Don't know if that is different from what I have.

The suggestion of getting a VAGCOM is good. However, the "cheap" version does not have the OBD2 mode you need for the Jeep CRD. This will provide more data than anything short of the dealer unit. You can read trans temp, oil pressure, etc.

I also have "Torque Pro" which interferes with operation in scan mode, but does offer limited instrumentation with the CRD. This could offer the ability to read everything in the ECU you would want, but depite offers of CASH, nobody on the Torque forum has offered to help write the code needed. Never tried it with any VWs.

I have searched around and found a 3160B ABS/SRS vehicle application use chart here....

http://www.mechanicstoolsandbits.com/pdf/ABS-ARS-Application-for-USB-B-Tools.pdf

Innova's website has a link that is supposed to show you the vehicles covered, but it seems to be a dead link.

http://www.innova.com/en-US/Product/ScanTools All the way at the bottom is where I found the 3160B.

I use a VAGCOM, CRD and VW-Audi-Porsche-Skoda-Seat products. Does not work on the 2001 or 2004 Ford though.
