Last month I literally came outside and my clear was starting to peel on the roof in a couple spots. Within a week it was almost gone....the WHOLE roof. At this point I noticed there were a couple dime or smaller spots on the hood and now the entire hood is crazing and is likely to be paintless in mere days. Has anyone had this problem. Mine is a 2005 CRD black that lives in FL but with only 68k she is well taken care of and waxed regularly. I thought that somehow it might have been sabotage or an accident of some sort but my body guy says...that's Chrysler paint for you. I also have the paint bubbling around the 3rd light....been that way for years now. Dealer said can't warranty until it rusts "through" which it has never done. I can't even trade it in with no paint so looking for suggestions and experiences with peeling clear, etc.

Just get it repainted. You can even use your insurance so all you do is pay the deductable.

Different areas of the country(and world) will experiance very good results or poor results from the factory paint.

yep, paint is flaking off in chunks on one edge of my rear bumper and the hood went from a couple small scratches to the clearcoar chipping off in chunks, all over. Chrysler products are known to have the worst paint jobs on the market.

03 here that has sat in the weather/sun every day since bought and the roof is blown out and hood soon to follow. fwiw, my KJ rarely even got washed throughout the years, so i'm actually happy with how long the paint has lasted.

Well I traded it for a 2011 Ram 1500 quadcab w/20K on her. Liberty had 3 out of 4 windows not working. Radio...shot. Paint peeling, etc. I loved that CRD but the only thing I really loved was the drivetrain.....rest was a piece of s$%t. I hope this new Mopar is better. Only reason I got The Ram was it was voted best truck and they were willing to give me a decent trade....almost $10k w/68k on her for the trade with all the ailments. Good thing is I bought the Liberty during the employee pricing so even after 7 1/2 years and the $$ I spent on repairs and maintenance it worked out to less than $300 month. Not bad all inclusive. Without repairs, tires, oil, etc it was less than $200 mo.Jeeps do hold their value no matter what the headaches. I would recommend buying a Jeep like mine as it will nolonger depreciate and the drivetrain should be reliable in the long run....not to mention the 30+mpg HWY. Better be a shade tree mechanic if you decide to buy one as they "can" be expensive to maintain.

I take fabulous care of my paint jobs and the scratches were cosmetic. The paint started peeling off all kinds of areas I had NO scratches as well. I've also owned a lot of vehicles, some much older than this Liberty and have never before had a problem with clearcoat peeling off. And none of my other vehicles were Chrystlers. My wife had a Dodge Neon and her clearcoat came off in dramatic chunks as well. I also used to be an auto detailer and Chrystler products were the only vehicles that I ever recall seeing this happen to, especially the Neons. Let's face it, they just use really really crummy stuff. I would never take my Jeep to a dealership for a repaint only to have the same thing re happen.

Troy - your jeep is not an example of a 'stock' paintjob....

don't care where you were when you painted it and lined the roof......

nor is your maintenance schedule an example of normal....

maybe a normal obsessive compulsive... but not normal, normal.....

Really impressive - but not normal - not stock

No not stock color but used the same paint the factory uses, from the sealer, primer, all the way to the paint and clearcoat.

My Jeep spend the first 7 years of its life in Tampa...no issues yet. Paint seems nice still.

I'm wondering if a dealership with a couple guys painting just does a more quality job than the factory rolling them down the assembly line.
