Can you actually feel a vibration when the noise occurs? Where do you feel it if you can. At times, does it feel like a flat tire or worn CV joint?

Yes, I feel the vibration in my left foot which I think would be the inside of the tire. I guess you could say it sounds similar to a flat tire. I've never had a worn CV joint, so not sure how that would feel or sound.

Went for a drive and removed my floor mat to see if I'd be able to "feel" it better, but it didn't change a thing. If I remember correctly, I was even able to "feel" this sound in the passenger seat through the floorboard.

I'm curious if the sound would change or be there in reverse.

You're going to have to go back and remember when it first started,
whats different now
any potholes/ curbs etc you may of hit possibly
Have you been under it to look things over real well
Front driveshaft, CVs any tears -looseness
If you have another KJ/KK close by swap tires and go for a ride
start breaking it down one thing at a time

I agree I have to break it down one thing at a time and pretty much have. I'm 90 percent sure it's all from the ditch the one day. Just boggles me that I'm feeling something on the driver's side when nothing hit that side.

I already tried BRAND NEW tires up front and it changed nothing. When we drove without the front driveshaft it changed nothing. I've looked under it and at the wheels, brakes, rotors and nothing looks out of the ordinary. It DOESN'T get louder on turns. Also pretty certain it fades away and I "feel" it less when going faster.

If it's helpful information, I had the front passenger side mud flap ripped just about off from that unfortunate day and also hit the side skirt/rocker panel on that side.

Getting hit or hitting something on one side will cause issues on the other side at times
have you had the alignment checked/ done since
sorry I forget if you have or not

You've been describing pretty much the same thing that mine does, sometimes now. The dealer told me it was the tires after I took it in to replace the left front wheel bearing. It may very well be that. I've also discovered a potential problem with with the torque converter. There was a TSB for that at some point. I mentioned it to a service writer and we had a long conversation about it. The vibration stopped until yesterday but it isn't bad yet. he was concerned that there may be permanent damage if I just let it go. The big problem with tsb's is they look them up by vin and even though you may have the exact same thing going on, they haven't included it on the list and sometimes won't touch it. For eighty bucks though, I'd probably try the wheel bearing. I don't understand why they didn't start with that instead of the drive shaft :dizzy:

Wheels have been balanced and alignment has been done after.

I think I remember reading somewhere you describing something related to this on a different thread. Have the link? I wonder if that's the tsb I had done. If it is, I love the results.

I do think it's still possible it's the bearings, but I've checked myself, and they've also said at the shop my wheels are very tight. I'm curious if maybe it's a component close to the gas pedal cuz I can almost feel the slightest vibration through it, unless it's just because it's the wheel which is sort of close to the throttle. They also agreed these tires are worthless, but the new tires they tried didn't yield results.

When your bearings were checked, was it using tools or feel. Unless they're totally shot, you won't be able to tell if they're good just by jiggling the wheel. Do you have an engineering stethoscope? That's a very valuable tool for checking bearings. When properly done, you can hear the balls rolling into each other while rotating the bearing. It's kinda tricky sometimes finding a place to put the probe. I tried to find a good pic of one of these but I don't think they'll transfer well. Google engineering stethoscop. Anyway, if it sounds gritty in there or maybe like there are little chunks then the bearing is probably going to fail soon. Anything in there will be bearing pieces, they're sealed. I'll look for the link, not sure where the conversation was.

Ted, let me just say I appreciate you looking out for me here on this thread so far. Couldn't really sleep so I was messing around with some stuff on the Jeep and I didn't solve the problem, but at least found something suspicious.

I know what the tool is you're speaking of, but don't own one.

The shop did a good job checking for the sound. They checked it by putting it in the air and driving like that, and by wiggling the wheels and such, followed by numerous test drives.

There is some sort of boot, cushion, don't know exactly what it's called, connected from the steering column to the firewall that was extremely loose. Snapped it back in. It could be all in my head, but I feel like it might have made the noise slightly quieter.

I'm beginning to think the problem is right about in that area. This sound reminds me of a problem I had with my last car, similar noise, turned out to be the heat/dust shield for the brakes was rubbing. Do we have that on our KKs?

Loose boot, huh. I believe all vehicles have those shields.

Suspension components are like a foreign language to me, but I wanna check those shields. Things are really tight and crammed together down there by the wheels.

I keep saying I'm gonna have my buddy help me out, maybe next week when our schedules don't clash, we can get a driving video put together which I think may be able to help the Jeep Gods.

Looks like it's going to be a u joint or axle mount that will need to be replaced. Too much play in the driveshaft upfront. Almost looks like my engine mounts aren't strong enough. I have an appointment in a week with the dealer.

U Joint?
Axle mount ?
How much play do you have in the front driveshaft, some is normal
What makes you think your engine mounts aren't strong enough?

When it's in the air on jack stands there is some play. When turning the drive shaft it's making the identical sound that I'm hearing.

When it's still in the air and 4 wheel drive is engaged, you hit the brakes, it creates a lot of movement and everything seems to just give. This also recreated the sound I'm hearing.

I'll find out next Monday for sure. If it's not one of the things I described, I'll be shocked.

The noise is in the beginning of the video. The loud noise at the end is a bottle of vodka.

Went to the dealer today. They said it's my front hubs. Should have it back some time tomorrow. Will test drive her for many miles to see if she's really fixed or not after that. Nice hole in my pocket.

Got the Jeep back. She rides better than ever now. Apparently my front hubs needed to be replaced.
