Our 2006 Jeep Liberty has had cold starting issues after replacing the ceramic glow plugs with metal glow plugs. We also think there has been an air in fuel issue that we have seen on a number of occasions. The dealer and/or Chrysler has not been convinced and pursued looking at the injectors as the problem. When testing pressure, set point was 8568 psi and while cranking the engine, they measured 8334 psi.

They got a special tool and performed a "fuel injector leak quantity test'. They "found a high pressure return from #3 and inner vial drain back into injector" and replaced the injector. After getting our Jeep back, we still had several cold starting issues and we documented with video air hissing from the fuel filter head when we were pumping the primer. Is it possible that the "fuel injector leak quantity test" was in error? Should those test results have actual numbers or volumes reported?

After returning our Jeep to the dealer, the dealer tested the injectors again with their special tool and found no problems with the injectors. The Chrysler field engineer then had them remove the exhaust manifold and cold started the engine, They reported seeing clouds of smoke coming from 3 of the cylinders not but not #3 which was the new one. They then stated that the 3 remaining injectors were bad. Isn't visual checking the exhaust open to interpretation?

Although we have had owned our a number of diesels over the years, we are new to diesel problems and would appreciate any and all opinions on this topic.

Best Regards GrampyS

When ever an injector is replaced, the serial number of the new one must be programmed into the ECU. You may want to verify that the dealership did perform this important task.
