Does anyone know if there is any aftermarket stainless 3" manderal bent exahust pipe for the liberty? I would like to do the muffler delete, but I don't have anyone local that does stainless manderal bending. Just curious. Or perhaps a cat-back system that I could just swap in a chunk of s.s. pipe? I am only finding 2.5" kits anyways.

Also has anyone tried to setup the borla style dual exhaust for the crd? seems like a waste of pipe, but sure would look cool! haha

I believe that a search would uncover that the 2.5" pipe is all that is needed on the CRD and that a 3" pipe is un-necessary and will actually hurt performance. I am pretty sure that GDE recommended staying with the 2.5" pipe - but by all means get rid of the stock muffler, and the restrictions behind the CAT.

Alright. I am coming from power strokes so I'm use to 4-5". Well then perhaps is there a 2.5" pipe? What is factory 2.25"? Or 2.5" would be easy to cut and burn in a muffler delete. Factory pipe is stainless isn't it?

Most of us that modified the muffler just took out that gasser 4cylider cheap junk muffler Chrysler decided to put in the crd to save few pennies. I can tell you for sure that just cutting out that junk and installing a straight pipe would not increase the noise by much, I would say you'd hear your offroad tires over that noise. The muffler looks as being stainless steel, as I didn't see any rust on it, but you know diesels don't mess up mufflers as bad as gassers... My straight pipe is not stainless though, but it doesn't have any rust on it other than at welding. I think it's only galvanized pipe. I've had it for over 2 years.

You should have stayed with the Power Strokes for great sound. I am running no cat with a 2.5 in Thrush muffler from local parts store, this muffler was ten sizes smaller than factory and it fits snuggly under the jeep. I have not finished it all up yet pretty much because i like how it is now. I was running no cat or muffler that was crazy loud and sounded like crap. My set up is simple galvanized pipe from down pipe to new muffler and i have it dumping out in front of rear axle. Not the greatest but i like it. Oh and another thing these little jeeps will never sound like a Power Stroke.

I am not looking for sound. Just trying to help with performance and economy. Sorry if that is how my statement was taken.

I have Magnflow catback and "clean" cat, though GDE claims no benefit from this.

For what it's worth I've posted this before but FYI the ID of the outlet from the OEM turbo at the marmon flange connection to the exhaust pipe is 2" and the OEM exhaust pipe ID at the bend in front of the flex section is 2.25". Measured on my old OEM turbo and section of OEM pipe removed to do GDE turbo install.

So is the exhaust pipe pre-muffler 2.25" and post-muffler 2.25"? If one was to run to the shop and get a piece of straight 2.25" pipe I could just cut out the muffler (after flange) and replace? Is the muffler center-in and center-out orientation? I have not crawled under there as we still have snow in the driveway.

If you want to mess with the exhaust system in hopes of more power or something IMHO the best thing to do is replace the stock muffler with something like a Magnaflow #12226 which IIRC requires a bit of added pipe as it's shorter than OEM. Then save all those $s you did not spend on pipe that IMHO won't do much to buy a GDE tune which will do a lot for power, economy, and engine life.

I'm not sure you are understanding me. I would think a 2' piece of 2.25" pipe would be cheaper than $500+ for the GDE tune. Every little bit to help performance and economy adds up. Not sure why I would bother with a $100 muffler if other users have stated a straight pipe job doesn't increase the dB value that significantly. Thanks for your option though.

I think that those $500 spent for the gde tune were the best $500 I had spent for this Jeep ever. Just my opinion :). Took a look at the oil after almost 1000 miles, looks almost like a gasser. Engine sounds so much cleaner, better response/acceleration, better mileage. IMO it's a must for this engine.

x3, GDE tune is hands down the best money spent for this engine.

I was running somewhere around 30.5 MPG hand calculated with mine.

I was not saying that it wasn't a good invesemt. Again I guess we are a bit off topic. On a side note what tune is preferred? I've notice two different Eco tunes and the hot tune? What supporting mods should be performed?

Pre and post is 2.5" HOWEVER right after the cat there is a 2.25 restriction at the joint that should be replaced when you add the straight pipe

I scored a gasser magnaflow for my CRD and have been very happy with it. Best 20 min installation ever. Yes 20 min from take off to last fit adjustment. $180 off the for sale topics.

Buy a GDE tune it is the best preformance enhancement one can make to the CRD. I have been running te ECO Tune since summer 2010 and just upgraded to the Full Torque Eco Tune. I have never made any other mods to make it work, just Samco CAC hoses at 100K with new TB.

The little changes by removing the muffler isn't a wothwhile change as compaired to the GDE Tune. The tune will save you money in fuel, but it will make the engine live and perform properly for years to come.

Yes I know about GDE. Did you notice much change in the full tourque tune vs regular tune? How come you didn't run the hot?
