Nice, Digger. I love seeing your KK in action. :JEEPIN: What size/kind of tires are you running these days?

Still playing with the 245/75r16 falken rocky mountain ats

While I love the highway aspects of the tire, I'm not real happy with the snow performance of the tire....

Digger, have you regeared at all, or are the 245's fine with the stock gears? After my lift goes on I am thinking about getting 245's. I know with 265's regearing is almost mandatory.

For the most part if you read everyone is saying 245/75R16 is the biggest you should go without needing / wanting to regear.

I don't think Brian ever regeared his with the 265s. The performance mods though made him as fast as stock maybe a little faster.[/quote]

Bigger tires are actually better on fuel once you are up to speed for example if you drive longer distances at a constant speed like on a freeway they will save you gas but around the "city" you should definitely regear but its more or less what you want. You should put whatever tires you want on and drive around for a while and decide if you think you should regear or not

Not necessarily, I have 245/75-16 and I went from 16 mpg to right around 12 mpg. If the engine isn't at the proper rpm, it'll big down and use more fuel with less power.
Digger has 4.10 gears wit trutracs, with his standard shift it's almost like 4.56 in an auto. :2cents:

Yes, I'm geared at 4.10. However remember that since I have a manual I started out at 3.21 instead of the 3.73 the auto KK's have.

245's are the really all you want to go before you start to loose a lot of performance....

Oh yeah! Even with not so awesome snow tires, it's like a tank in 4x4 and 2WD play in the snow is down right fun! If I had a better tire, I probably wouldn't even need to use 4X4 as much as I have had to. Last weekend, we got hit with 12 inches of snow where I live, so the testing grounds have been plenty...

If any one wants, I have a really nice excel spread sheet made up that you can play with and test different tire sizes and gear ratios. It tells you what RPM you will be spinning in a specific gear at any speed.

Just PM me :P

AWESOME :D I was advised against installing a Detroit locker in the rear because I the way they act while towing. It really didn't make much sense to me though because I thought that was one of the things they were made for. The way our drive train was designed seems to lend itself very well to the trutrac though.

I haven't done any towing, but I just don't see why it would be an issue. If that were the case, why did Chevy put the G10 no spin LSD in their trucks? It acts a lot like a DTT.

City and Highway manors are new to none and when you need traction, it's there. I will say that the ABS pump still activates with in deep snow, but it doesn't work as hard as an open diff would. Personally I find the TCS activating very helpful in deep snow. It keeps your brakes just warm enough to offer 100% braking power instead of the normal 40% to 60% you would experience if they were clogged with snow...

That's interesting. I knew he was trying to sell his 265's but I had read that 245's were as high as you could go without regearing (or suffering dismal gas mileage and loss of power). What kind of performance mods did he run? Do you know if he corrected his speedometer for the larger diameter tires?

Hi JeepMonkey,
How did the rear bumper install go? I would love to see some pics. What kind of new bumper did you get?

Sorry I did say I would put some pictures up so I will definitely tonight. And it's a rear steel bumper, built by Atthehelm.

The install went great and looks great too, now I just need to figure out how I want to dump the exhaust now.

Awesome. AtTheHelm's bumpers are top notch. I really like what I've seen of them so far.

The trutrac was what the guy recommended. I wanted to put a Detroit locker in the rear with a trutrac up front. For some reason, he thinks the locker will keep trying to engage while turning because of the load while towing. I'm not sure it would do that but I haven't contacted eaton yet. Besides, I knew what you had and wanted to see how you liked it. It seems like a pretty good way to go, I like trutracs. 4 wheel parts has one on their counter that's cut away, they have all of them set up that way with handles where the axels go. It provides a great way to understand how they work. The trutrac is the only limited slip I'd choose, they seem to be the best.

Just installed my New Sony MEX-BT4100P Radio with Steering wheel control interface. Ordered my Daystar Lift. Now looking for a set of 235/65/18 tires to replace the stock 235/60/18.

I don't remember exactly, but I know he had a cold air intake, and flowmaster super 44.

Decided it wasn't too cold today and gave her a bath. My hands froze, but it was worth it. She's a clean black Jeep once again.
