So it was on the block heater all night and started right up! Still smoked like a stack though. But it did go away once it warmed up. Thanks for the info on the TB. I was actually watching the youtube vids earlier this week so i know what im getting in to lol.

Pm kjjet, he has a very thorough walkthrough with pics that he can send you. Also, there are several other good ones on the forum, sir Sam has few videos in the noob guide. This is another good one:

Beesvillefarm procedure is great. He dose everything he should. Takes no short cuts. He leaves the sprokets loose untill the belt is on and the tension is set. NO markings. allways rechecking the tension. No turning the crank CCW. OSM job!!!! For sure the best i have seen out there. He dose change the water pump, If your not? the process takes much less apart. MP me if you want my procedure with pic's and tighting specs.

So I hate to dig this topic back up but I just returned from a vacation and the jeep is still smoking until warm-up with a knick on a cold start. Also I'm noticing a small coolant leak. No visual leaks though. I'm putting in maybe a cup of coolant every couple days so not much. And there's no loss of power as far as I know. I'm thinking it's either a head gasket or maybe stretched head bolts. Any thoughts??

Could be any of a variety of things:
1. on cold engine crank up and run for say 10 seconds or so, don't want to warm coolant at all; shut off and open coolant tank cap. If there is a pressure release you have a head gasket leak.
2. drop by parts store and get HOAT coolant compatable UV dye and if they have it a UV light (can order from Amazon for ca. $10-15); add dye to coolant tank; drive for a day or so to circulate; in garage or after dark us UV light to look for coolant leaks at all hose connections and radiator (don't forget driver's side EGR cooler and passenger side oil cooler) - if leaks found repair as appropriate (Note - the factory hose spring clamps depend on spring tension to work and can lose tension - replace with worm clamps)
3. run AC and check water drip from it, will create puddle under standing vehicle more or less in front of passenger foot area, for any coolant taste (sweet) - if found heater core is leaking.

As for no1 I've noticed it had a good amount of pressure release and it's always made me wonder why. So would it be head gasket or maybe just head bolts worn? The worsted part is its our main vehicle and I hate running it like this. We use it as minimal as possible. If it is the head gasket, how hard is it to fix?

Head gasket means removing the whole top end. Since it is a dual overhead cam, that means both of your cams are in the intake and will have to be removed with the intake.

Basically you're going to go in as far as you would for rockers/lifters and then 1 step further. It is a LOT of work.

Where are you located?

Ugh....I'm in Germany at the moment. I don't really trust any mechanics around here.
So correct me if I'm wrong but would my best bet be to remove the injectors to check the cylinders for coolant? Also I've been reading on here that the EGR could leak coolant into the exhaust. Another thing I noticed is I did the EHM a while back and the vent hose doesn't have oily mist like most people's but a bit of moisture in it. I need to check if it's coolant or not.

So I pulled the hose of the ehm and it smells like it could be coolant. The oily missed coming out definitely has a watery texture. I'm not quite sure what to do next but I'll probably make a youtube video about it just to see what comments popup.

If I were in your shoes I would consider head studs- see this thread for more information.
