What type of motor oil should i use on my 96 jeep with 168000 ml to increase oil pressure? Lately my Jeep pressure has dropped a bit. Is it time to change the viscosity level? Should I use 20w50 instead of 10w30 to bring the oil pressure a bit up. Thanks.

How much is "a bit". If it's 5psi or less it's likely routine engine wear and not worth much worry. If it's more but not over say 10psi then more viscosity might help a bit but won't "cure" the underlying problem. If it's significantly lower, not sure how much that is, you need to fix the root cause which can range from a bad oil pump to bearing wear.

Near term test that won't cost much. Pour in a can of STP oil treatment and see what the pressure does. If it goes back to normal you can keep with your regular oil and add STP at each oil change, something I did on an older motor years ago and it worked ok. Or you can go for a high weight oil, might try 10W or 15W-40 before jumping all the way to XXW-50.

If it's a 96 it must be an XJ Cherokee with the 4.0 L inline 6. I'd look at testing the oil pressure with an actual gauge, in case the sending unit is bad. If it's still low, it might be your oil pump. If the oil pump is ok, it might just be that your bearings are wearing out because the engine is getting up there in terms of miles. Once the bearings wear, oil can squeeze around them, lowering the overall oil pressure. I had a similar problem on my old 2000 XJ when the head cracked, allowing coolant to slowly mix with oil, which caused a lot of wear to the bearings before I caught the problem. If the oil pressure is over 12 though, you should still be ok... or at least that's what I think I remember from the Cherokee Forum.

My 96 KJ has over 326,000 miles on the 2.5 4cyl. About 100,000 miles ago I had an oil pressure drop. The plugs were clean so I changed out the oil pressure sending unit and apparently that solved the problem.

If no obvious leaks or oil burning give that a try.
