I'm looking to get better MPG what would be the best aftermarket part to start with?

I'm thinking cold air intake with K&N or exhaust

Thanks for any advice.

Both are waste of money. First good tune up and keep your foot off the floor board. Loose some weight. And if you still don't get mpg you want....sell it for a prius.

I get 18-20 mpg highway. Tommudd gets 21 with 265/75 and 4.10 gears.

I would suggest getting a ScanGauge or some other ecometer that shows you your instantaneous gas mileage. The instant feedback will help you change your driving habits on the fly. You will learn to get up to speed quickly and coast a lot, potentially increasing your gas mileage by 25% just by modifying your driving style a bit. Other than that, keep your tires inflated to 34 psi and do the scheduled maintenance and oil changes. There's not much else you can do with a 2-ton brick on wheels. The fancy intakes, throttle body spacers, and the like are expensive and don't give you nearly as much bang for your buck. There are quite a few posts on here from people who tried them that say the K&N lets quite a bit of dirt into the engine, and doesn't increase your mileage at all.

i agree with 4x4. The best thing you can do is get PROPER plug and coils and keep it under 2K rpms. you could look into better injectors and get a clean paper air filter.

before i lifted mine i got 21.5-22 mpg 95% highway.

Under 2000 RPM, disagree that's lugging the engine too much
Mine doesn't even like to run that slow
Best MPGs for me is 72-75 mph

and wait my Grandmother never drove that slow since I taught her how to drive

So you cruise at 55mph on the highway? That is about as fast as you can go and be below 2000rpm's.

The 3.7 see's it's best mpg's between 2600-2900rpm's.

Most think the lower the RPM the better their mileage will be which is not always the case

Agreed, mine seems to do best above 2300 it'll pull hills all day long in overdrive at 2500. If you get down under 2000 all it does is downshift and never gets back in OD. Lugs down way to much under 2000. You've got to stay in the powerband.( my opinion)

Thanks for all the input. Just an FYI I'm fine with 16-20 but just thought I'd ask. Should i even waste my $$ on exhaust or K&N? After reading all your input I'm wondering if I'd even gain anything

K&N is a waste either CAI or in the box, just make sure you keep good clean filters in there at all times
Stay up on plug changes as well

If you're getting 16 in town and 20 on the hiway thats pretty good/average
