Where is the trans vent located on an 04 kj with a 3.7l and 42re trans? Also does the Dana 30a have a vent? And where is its location on the diff housing?

For the trans it's located on top, about where the bellhousing starts and ends up midway up attached to the trans dipstick. The D30A's breather hose is attached to the front cover,no breather on the case itself, just the cover and ends up attached to one of the LF coilover top plate nuts.

Ah good to know! While I have you here...How many quarts does it take to refill a 42Re if I just drop the pan and change the filter? yeah I know that only gets out a little bit of trans fluid, but I recently had the dealer do a flush and I don't think that included a filter change..

Can take anywhere from 4qts to 9qts depending on how long the pan is left off.Just make sure you have enough if needed.I always buy ATF+4 by the case, never hurts to have some extra for the PS and your t-case also uses ATF+4(mine does not).

IIRC, it took just about 6 quarts when I did mine, but that was about 4 years ago, so don't take that to heart just yet.

Well the 3 speed auto in my TJ also uses it, so I have a bunch... I found a really good way to do a trans flush on the TJ's auto by measuring out 3 quarts of Mopar ATF+4 in a clean jug. Then undo the line that pumps out the ATF, have the wife fire it up, throw it in neutral, pump out 3 quarts, shut it off, add 3 quarts of fresh ATF, continue until fluid looks fresh and clean. Then drop the pan and change the filter.

My question is, would this same kinda deal work for my KJ?
