Hey guys....
I'm in the process of changing out my airbox to turbo hose (surprisingly....the old one wasn't ripped or torn after 123,000 miles.....I was shocked) and I wanted to see if the hose was on the turbo far enough. I have the new hose one but there is a tiny gap between the end of the hose and the edge of the turbo. Is this hose on far enough or do I need to try and eek it on a bit further. I have tried to get it on further but to no avail....even with one hand underneath and one pushing from the the top. What do ya'll think.....am I good to tighten the clamp or does it need to go further?

On a side note....I was happy to find that there was no play in the impeller.

Thanks, Jim

Yes that looks fine; it's sitting exactly where the same hose is on stoutdog's 06 that I just looked at. The main thing is that the clamp needs to be on the turbo side of the "hump" at the outer end of the inlet.

MUCH more important is the air box end. Be sure the hose is pushed/pulled until it touches or nearly touches the MAF sensor before you tighten the air box end clamp. Failure to do so or tightening that clamp to much (just run it down snug, no godzilla) will crush the plastic air box outlet as geordi and I both know. Treat the intercooler ends of the CAC hoses the same way; fully on before tightening, snug clamp down, recheck in a few days.

Thanks Papaindigo.....also....is there a special technique to getting the bottom of the air box back into place? It seems to be a serious pain to get it back in.

I just want to hijack your thread for one question.

Is the CAC hose also referred to as the intercooler inlet hose?

The service manual refers to it as the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) inlet hose.

It is the hose that runs from the box your air filter is in, to the turbo, evidenced in this picture by (Is this CAC hose on far enough).

Ok.....got everything back together. That was the first time I took the airbox out and I was trying to re-position it in going straight down and not kind of angled backwards. Once I angled it back....it went in ok. After further inspection of the old airbox to turbo hose and actually removing the clamp I could see some cracking and a couple of small splits. It didn't look like they actually went all the way through but I am happy to have a new hose on there.

That's the CAC hose?

I thought the CAC hose was the one that ran off of the top of the turbo into radiator area?

For what it's worth:
1. air filter box to turbo hose per parts manual is "clean air hose"
2. intercooler per parts manual is "charge air cooler"
3. turbo to intercooler and intercooler to FCV valve on engine hoses per parts manual are "charge air cooler hoses" inlet and outlet.

No wonder finding stuff in the parts fiche is so blasted hard.

Maybe I read it wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Meh.
