Need Pre-purchase inspection in Austin, TX

Hey All,

Found a CRD I like and need a recommendation for a shop in Austin (preferably near Mopac / 183) that is familiar with these Diesels.

Yeah - good luck with that, you might have a chance of finding a shop that admits Jeep sold a diesel....

I had taken mine to South Point (other end of town, but close to me) initially they didn't have a good mechanic - and then they got one - and then he left - not sure who's there now - my impression is they don't pay well and have a lot of turnover, they did have Cummins and Sprinters in the shop at the time I was there.

I bought mine at Bluebonnet in New Braunfels - about 40miles down the road - they seem more straight forward and honest - good reputation - same personnel there on repeated visits - but fairly new shop (Jeep only)when the CRD came out - they sold a fair volume of diesels - but at the time not much experience -although that's been 8 years and they're close enough to San Antonio to get business & repeat business from there.

Mopac and 183 stays a consistent traffic jam so I avoid that area if at all possible.

The other CRD guy at work had mentioned an independent - and I'll try to find the name - but I don't think he's close either.

Best of luck. I use to live up on Tyler, I hate states that require inspections and there stickers. Anyways I was lucky enough when I owned a Yota to find a shop that would pretty much give me an inspection sticker without emissions etc.
I don't kno how Austin is. If its anything like east tx just ask some young kid in his non legal diesel truck who to talk to.

Hey Texanav8r - check the Rocky mountain section and see if someone is close enough for you to test drive a 'known good' version.

most of the things you're looking for - standard used car stuff - damage - frame straightening ect plus unusual noises/sounds

and a documented maintenance history, be really nervous with cheater boxes plugged into pressure lines.

probably the biggest issue is timing belt changes since most used ones are close to 100k (and even that's too long an interval)

Durangotangs jeep had 98,000 miles on it IRRC when he listed it here for sale. I hope it had a timing belt change. I wouldn't trust a dealer to say it was done and would want receipts showing a private individual seller or used car dealership did the job, i.e. parts purchased.

Actually talked to DT about it, it's going to make someone a great Jeep, just not me. Turned out to not be exactly what I'm looking for. May take a trip out there just to look at it anyway though if nothing else pops up soon. Couple here and there, but they all seem to have their share of issues.

It's fun that this is such a small community that we can track down the lineage of these things when they hit the market
