How do you suggest dealing with that ridge when installing ARPs with larger diameter washers?

I second R2.0's suggestion to use a hand-turned piloted reamer and remove it. I bought one and will use it when I build the next engine, intended for Libby2. I smooshed mine down with the studs the first time I did it, but that has undesireable side effects. NOT recommended.

Has anyone actually taken out the ridges, installed ARPs and put serious miles on successfully?

ARP studs, Counterbore, m12X1.75 Tap and IDparts TB Kit delivered yesterday. Tear Down and prep to begin this weekend while waiting for the Sealy tools from the UK. Then the fun begins :pepper:

To deburr the block holes and avoid problems seating the stud. ARP recommends their use.

I wanted to report back to the forum the results of my engine swap. The dealership took a month to do the job, but as far as I can tell they did a good job. I would have expected some minor issues requiring me to take the CRD back, but nothing has come up.

What surprises me most is the improvement in mileage. My old engine never did better than 24 - 25 mpg hwy@75 (with ORM or GDE tune). I just got back from a 1000 mile trip and got 28 mpg hwy@80.

I had the dealer do the water pump, thermostat, and ETechno 7v glow plugs plus the standard engine swap related parts (gaskets, timing belt, and tensioner pulleys)

If you get an ECO tune on it now, you could probably get 30+ MPG regularly.

I left what was there. It was so minor I wasn't concerned about it.

Just over 8000 miles since I did the TB job and no issues. Just installed lift pump this weekend. Wish I would have done that earlier.

What did a new block (did you get a long or short block) set you back? I'm seriously considering a new engine, new interior, new paint, and other parts when my engine blows. I figure it still would be cheaper than a new vehicle.

WOW... can't believe you guys are trusting and paying Stealerships. I'm sure there are good mechanics, but its all about the dealer making as much $$$ as possible.

Hey guys. So yesterday I have taken apart my engine, took the head off to have the head gasket replaced. I was wondering if someone could tell me where exactly is the HG thickness mark? I think I have one hole but I am not sure thats the one. Can someone post a picture.

Do you guys know where I can rent the timing gear hold down tool in chicago area if not I will just rent it from GDE.

One thing I noticed the top of the pistons is really clean no deposits like all the gas engines I have take apart is this normal on the diesel?
