So the jeep has metal CAC pipes, straight piped from the turbo back, including the cat knocked out, and a edge tuner. The jeep runs great and i mean great but i have a concern thats been in the back of my head and i am not sure if its blow by or turbo issues. I live in VT so cold mornings are common. When i start it both in the winter and middle of the summer, she almost always puffs white/blue smoke out the back, smells like diesel, no coolant smell whats so ever. it smokes at the most for 20 seconds then cleans out. The only other time she smokes is doing about 65mph and coasting down hill but not off the throttle, rpms at about 1150, it will blow a quick puff. Also if in neautral at normal operating temp if i bring the revs up to 2k with no load in neutral she will smoke real bad same color as previously stated and almost feels like she caughes/hiccups a little. the jeep has close to 140k on her, timing belt and all that has been done. No shaft play on the turbo on inatke side, but i have not check shaft play on exh. side. Also my intake tube is no cracked and since i have owned it i have had the MAF unplugged to turn the egr off. The jeep maybe consumes a 1/4 of a quart in 5000 miles. I have always ran 5w40 rotella t6 with lucas oil stabalizer (the one that helps with dry starts).

To everyone with blown crd's or to anyone with some knowledge on what they think it is that would be great.

I think blow by and or turbo issues.

Also so everyone understands by what i mean that it runs great, i tow 5000 pounds regularly with it up through the hills of VT and have no problems

Simple. Remove tuner. If smoke goes away, you have found your problem. BTW, GDE tune is now considered essential.

It is due to the removal of the oxidation catalyst. The light white/blue smoke is hydrocarbon formed during combustion and no longer converted in the straight piped exhaust.

Thanks gde, i noticed it more once cat was knocked out, but it did it still with that cat, also why would it sometimes do the white smoke and other times not at all?

BTW GDE, when the turbo does go i hoep to purchase your tubro kit, the only reason i run the edge is i picked it up for next to nothing.

And the Edge is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I cannot speak for your smoke issue but I can say when I got my current 05, 1st one came out second best when rear ended by dump truck, it smoked all the time. Under power like a mosquito fogging truck and enough to soot up the rear bumper. Soon as I got the GDE tune smoke went away; cleaned rear bumper and 20K+ miles later it's still clean.

On that oil use. Remember that the oil level on the dip stick is not the most reliable. With a stock filter it takes 6.3/4 qts for a full fill and with an oversize filter it takes 7qts. Do one of those fills and mark your dip stick for future reference. Any excess fill just gets blown out thru the CCV>turbo>CAC hoses/intercooler>intake>combustion chambers>out the exhaust pipe and can look like losing oil when in fact the system is seeking the proper fill level.

Since the smoke on start up is white and smells like diesel, it is obviously unburned fuel. It is fairly common for diesels to do that a bit when it is really cold, but not so much in warmer weather, and not for 20 seconds or so. Maybe you have an injector that is slow to close?

I know nothing about the Edge tuner, but I can recommend the GDE ecotune.
