Ive heard all the horror stories about Rocky Road and their unreliability. I saw a CRD KJ in Arizona with a Rock Father lift and then spoke with the owner. The lift seemed much higher than the 2.5" you get out of a Frankie. The owner said he had NO issues or troubles with it. Any other experiences out there with RR lifts? Im finding it hard to decide between the two.

Thanks.

Tom

Frankinlift uses all OME parts(shocks and coils),RRO lift only uses OME front coils and shocks, the rest is there own junk.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I wish I could afford a JBA lift. Im not short on cash, but even Im having a problem spending 5500.00 for a 4" lift when a 2.5" lift is 1300.00 from the Franky people.

You guys should know this. What is the largest tire you can realistically use with a Fanky lift? Ill regear if I have to. Oh, I really dont want to cut up everything too.

You will be fine with a franky lift and 245/7516 with little to no issue.

Given that you have a CRD you can't go much beyond a hub-to-flare measurement of about 22" as the CV angles on a CRD are more severe to begin with that a gasser. So a full 4" lift is probably pushing you past where you can go.

An OME or Ironman kit from JBA will get you to about 22" all around - go with the 790 OME front springs or indicate the HD Ironman springs to support your diesel engine. Either of those kits from JBA will run you less than $800 - that's all four springs and all four shocks, plus Terraflex front bump stops and the 1/4" top plate for the front coilovers. You're probably sitting at around 18 to 18 1/2" hub to flare right now so you'll get 4" of lift out of these kits.

You can then fit the 245/75-16's no problem - and since you have a CRD you won't notice the loss of power/torque like those of us with gassers do with that size tire. Though other CRD owners have regeared to 4.10's when bumping up the tire size.

If you want, JBA will pre-assemble the front springs/shocks for you for a fee that is very reasonable. Call them up and get a quote - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Bob

Thanks everyone. I dont really understand how the Ironman lift is any higher than a franky. It seems like they are comparable products components.

Yoy really have to compare apples to apples and what you get
Look the lifts over, lots of differences and you're only looking at the height, not what all they include

Our Diff is lower so yes, CV angles are different than gassers, but ONLY the driver's CV can run into issues when lifted too high. Our Passenger CV is actually BETTER off than gasser CVs :SOMBRERO:

And get 255/75r17 for the tallest you can fit on a cheap lift.

CRDJoe, You have been around a while, I should have shown you mine before I left WA!

Not yet, my HWY MPG is fine, but city dropped a lot (getting 20MPG with 100% Bio now) and my off-the line power is low without giving it lots of gas. I plan on regearing but it won't save me much $ on fuel.

All I have up front is 790 OME coils and pinch weld pounded. I do plan on lifting a little more, mainly for looks

First, I've never bought a lift kit. I did do a 7/8 in. clevis lift to level things out. RRO is a beautiful ride and about 3 (max) stoplights from where I live.

I've seen their shop. I've been there. So. . . they know I might show up at any time with a .45 strapped to my waist. I'm not going to lift, but I could drive over and tell them what I expect. . . and what they could expect if they didn't deliver exactly what I'd paid for.

As a young man, I worked as a welder/fabrication mechanic. I could build anything differently every time I built it. I have no idea whether they've upgraded their products, but it could be done at any time. The weak point in their kit used to be the upper control arm. Otherwise, it compared well to its competitors.

I would advise dealing with dealers/manufacturers/fabricators/anybody you're giving money to, to try to deal as locally as possible. If they know you might show up in person, right in their face, you are treated entirely differently than someone with a credit card number.
