Here we go - scheduling fun!

I currently have 2 timing belt jobs on the radar, one around DC and the other up by NYC... Anyone else thinking about this, waffling, planning? Maybe you have wanted to have me do the work so you KNOW that someone with the knowledge and skills to do it right, is the one working on your precious CRD?

We all know (and rant) about clueless dealers, who will overcharge you for their own learning experiences on your vehicle... One which they might not have ever seen before! Don't take that risk!

Right now, the timing (heh) of these two jobs is depending on the parts arriving. The schedule currently will be around the weekend of the 13th of September. I would be happy to stop in and visit any other CRDs that need timing belts either before or after, and since I am already coming up, I can save everyone lots on the travel.

Your belts (if they haven't been changed) are all at or approaching 8 years old. The last couple I have changed each was showing signs of age - cracking and dry rubber. This is NOT something to ignore, as well we all know. Even if your mileage is ~40k, don't trust the belt to be in better condition.

Idparts has the complete kits in stock for $400 with a Graf water pump (excellent quality from what I have heard) and I can do the entire timing job in about 3 hours with the water pump replacement. You do NOT need any tools or a garage for me to work in, I can (and do) work just fine on a driveway or parking space, the only access needed is from the front where I will simply stand. I bring all the tools, a tent for shade / rain protection, and even a table to organize the parts as they come out. (Where'd that widgit come from? - won't ever be said) This is a simple job for you and your CRD - all you need to do is tell me when to show up!

Thinking about it? Now is the time.

Send me a PM or a reply in this thread, and we can get started on the planning. Don't risk your CRD motor by letting this go on if you haven't got ROCK-SOLID proof that your belt has been changed.

Wish you were around here. I'm am only at 75K but I don't see getting to 100K for another 2-3 years. I have been thinking about getting it taken care sometime before the year is up just so I can sleep better.

When you're around DC, let me know. I'd like to come watch, bring beverages (adult or otherwise) and lend a hand if needed.

I've got a gasser, but hey.

Austin is kinda in the wrong direction and certainly the wrong highway... But I might be persuaded. You certainly don't want to ignore the belt in the dry and hot Texas weather, that can't be doing any favors for the rubber.

I seem to remember a tragic trip from Las Vegas to Florida with my RV, where Texas and the heat cost me 3 tires and 2 waste tanks. If you ever are Eastbound on 20, right before the last rest stop on the East end of Texas... Let me know if there are REALLY pretty flowers about a mile before the rest stop on the outside shoulder? The inside dual let go, peeled off... And 35 gallons of "fresh" fertilizer was added to the environment right there.

Funny how the car that had been drafting off me didn't stop to see if everything was OK. :ROTFL: Teach ya to tailgate an RV!

Anyway - I'd be happy to at least discuss your options. Check your PMs. 8)

Leann - Will do, looks like it will be around Friday the 13th. Ahh, my lucky day! 8)

The 15th and 16th, I may have 2 up there and now a possible third in Boston, which could be on the 17th.

You want me to do yours too Raf?

I am considering ARP studs and may need your experience.

I have 61,000 miles on the clock and 8 years on the belt.

I can take it apart and do the belt, going further to the studs would be a big help.

I am 100% committed to Jim coming up to Boston to do my T-Belt here in Boston. Don't be shy and sign up! I spent an hour with him on the phone earlier - he knows his stuff!

Doing them all in one place with a group buy option would be the perfect scenario.

We would have to get the rigs ready for him to move along ...... do it all in one day.

We may need an aircraft hanger.

:ROTFL:

It could be, that my CRD experiences have made me a glutton for punishment... Or, more likely: I get to do something which I became fairly skilled at, because of taking my own engine FAR past that point on multiple occasions!

Yes indeed, Mike (OneCheekRider) is all booked and confirmed. The exact schedule is the only thing still to be determined, but it now seems that I might be visiting with the bulk of Jeep Liberty CRD owners in the North East before this trip is over. Thankfully, I spoke with Corey today (Cevans) and Idparts has PLENTY of kits to go around.

Racer - That is kinda what I was trying to set up for my last trip, but the logistics of multiple vehicles in one spot, plus travelling with my family, the horrendous traffic playing havoc with the schedule... It wasn't meant to be.

I'm booking out one full day for each one, knowing that I won't need anywhere near that much time, so it allows plenty of flex should something get in the way... Like traffic. I'm also travelling alone this time, so I only need to account for my own whereabouts.

Keep an eye on your inboxes - I will be drafting up a message for everyone tonight about confirming, once I have a firm list with deposits, I will firm up the schedule and the travel costs. The bonus here is I am *trying* to give everyone a further break. The more people confirmed, the better I can do for everyone.

So if you were contemplating this up to now... Nows your chance!

Still hashing out my schedule... Landing in Boston on the 8th, leave the 21st is all I have. Not sure what hotel I will be in, but I should have a few free nights/even a weekend. I've done my belt already (with geordi's advice via cell phone) so I just would be there to drink beer :5SHOTS:

Will look foward to stopping by. I have the full VM set, so let me know if you could use any extra tools. Will bring spare turbo, just in case. Nice to be able to compare shaft play to new OEM.
