I have lost all power steering. The boot that covers the ram that pushes and pulls the linkages is busted and that where the fluid leaks from. Do I need to replace the steering rack? How can I fix this as cheaply and easily as possible! Thanks for the help!

Yup you need a new rack and pinion steering gear. The less then steller reman's on the market(fenco or any bought from advance auto, autozone,or o'rielly's) run about $200,the better eman's run $50-$100 more. Not a easy job to takle yourself being a CRD(gasser not much easier) as it calls for 5+ hours of labor and yes you will need a alignment afterwards.

About $1000 or so all said and done and yes you must replace the whole rack.I'm not sure on the exact labor rate for the CRD but it is more cramped then a gasser and a gasser(4wd) calls for 5.5 labor hours to replace the rack, not including the alignment.

Can't say on a CRD,never done a rack on a CRD,but if it was a 3.7 KJ then yes.I did one in a camp ground(on the dirt) in MOAB in about 4 hours but it was a 3.7 gas KJ.

You can search here and on jeepkjcountry forum for the 3.7 KJ's easy install but do not know if you'd be able to do it so easy on a CRD.
