After many happy years with my 2005 CRD, I am going to cash it in. I have on order a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland with the Eco Diesel.

My Libby has been good to me. However, It must resent my plans because in the last month I have had the right front axle and CV joint replaced as well as the right upper control arm and a faulty inlet fuel pressure sensor. This cost was about $1050.

Now the dealer says that I need the front shocks and the mounts replaced, one of the tie rods has some play, and I just had a engine light which says that a glow plug is bad. Fixing all of this would be another $2500 if done by the dealer.

Looks like a good time to be selling the Libby. Will try to sell but have an offer of $5000 from the dealer on the Grand if I get no takers.

This would be a good fix er upper if someone is interested.

Stop driving immediately. Glow plug tip is about fall into cylinder and destroy motor.

Ive heard great things about the 3.0 liter VM. It will be nice to see them in the ram 1500 too. I'd have to keep my CRD though.

You'll go broke on any Jeep product if you don't do your own maintenance especially a diesel that has yet undetermined faults.

All of the expensive maintenance you had done is easy to do and you can always come here for help. $2,500 for your next labor quote is still crazy and what makes you think your new GC will be any cheaper?

So to save $2,500 (much less if you do it yourself) you are planning on spending $42,000 plus another $3,500 in taxes and registration fees? I don't get it.

Its ok to say you want a new jeep, but don't attempt to justify it financially.

Good luck with your new purchase. Let us know how much it costs you for dealer to top off your DEF fluid when it runs low.

DEF isn't actually that bad. You can get a 55 gallon drum of it for 189.99 and it comes with a pump. Last I guy I talked to was only using about 2.5 gallons every 5K miles on his f350.

This thread brings up a good question. We have about 130K on the Libby now. It is running fine and has served us well with no more that an expected amount cost/repair. I hope to get at least 200K out of it. But, in general, this particular vehicle model has a terrible track record. We spend a lot of time on this forum speculating on why (EGR, bad recommended oil, etc.) But the fact is the new Jeep diesel offering has the same engine make in it, with even more emissions crap. So why in the world would anyone buy another? We love our Jeep and I would love to get the wife new GC diesel, but why? I hate the idea of a gasser but I have to wonder if is makes more sense. I'd consider another vehicle such as a Cayanne, Toureg, etc, but we live at least an hour from the closest dealer. To make matters worse, the destructive emissions crap will not be able to be defeated on the new GC.
