Can someone please offer some advice - the speedo stopped working and the ABS dashboard light stays on on my 2002 Cherokee (KJ) Liberty, 2.5 CRD Ltd.

When this happened previously I searched on this forum which pointed me to the ABS sensor on the rear diff. It appeared to be a lose connection at the sensor, so I just taped the wires up and bent the handbrake retainer away as it was fouling the sensor/wires - the speedo worked and the ABS lights went out and all was well for about 4 months. Unfortunately that didn't work this time!

So assuming the ABS senor was faulty it was replaced, but no change.

What else should I look for and where - I looked to see if the sensor and speedo were fused, but it appears not??

Advice most welcomed.

Many thanks
Andrew

Same thing happened to me. Its the speed sensor. The trouble is the entire assembly has to be replaced. I tried the sensor but it blew out soon after. The entire assembly (500.00) had to be replaced.

Thanks for the heads-up, I think I'll try a few cheap fixes first - next step is to replace the ABS switch connector and wiring, see: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171113332812?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Go back to that rear diff sensor and inspect the wires going to it. I'm a Jeep tech and have found many "green" corroded wires in this area.

Thanks for the tech-tip and I suspect you may be right - hopefully replacing the connector and wiring will cure the problem.

Cheers

Spot on, thanks!

I replaced the connector with one of these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171113332812?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Cheap fix, thanks again.
