I have an 05 Liberty CRD.

One of the things I would like to do in the not distant future is to add some more sound reduction.

Has anyone done this?

There are things I'm interested in doing:

Reducing the transmission of external noise from outside the cabin through the body into the interior.

Reducing noise transmitted by the body itself.

Reducing the sheet metal's own ability to vibrate and produce sound of its own.

Of course, one FIRST starts with reducing sound leaks, etc. Has anyone done a study to find out where noise originates?

Since mine's a CRD and the motor's a little loud, my first thoughts are to reduce engine noise that comes through the firewall / floor.

Second, would be to stop the floor / doors from transmitting tire noise that is transmitted to the body from being transmitted from the body into the cabin.

Lastly, to find any other sources that are easily and effectively squelched.

Any knowledge that's specific to my Liberty would be greatly appreciated.

I have not yet done this to my CRD...maybe one day...but I have silenced previous vehicles by sticking on Sound Deadening Pads. These are squares of cork...about a foot square.. with a bitumen base that you can buy from spares shops.

First thing is to stick them on the under-surface of the hood...the existing section of cloth is useless.

Then you can stick them up against the firewall and inside the doors....paint them a nice black color or rubberise them.

They are quite heavy so make sure your hood lifting struts are in good shape.

You can also lift the carpet inside the vehicle and the trunk and fit some under carpet under the existing carpet...helps deaden road noise.
