What the heck does this mean? GDE sells tunes tied to particular VINs and they cannot be transferred between vehicles. Talk to Keith

Wasn't trying to cheat anyone.

I didn't realize they tied the TOOL to your vin. I understanding tying the specific files they up and download, but not the tool. I have no problem paying them for their tune.

Oh, well. Maybe I won't give them my money. That kind of behavior really ticks me off.

Just to clarify:
1. the tune is specific to the VIN of the vehicle it's to be used on and IIRC the VIN is embeded in the coding of the ECU so it cannot be changed. I suspect but don't know that Keith would be willing to deal on transferring (e.g. recoding to a different VIN) a purchased tune to a different CRD if the original vehicle was totaled.
2. the "tool" can store and upload/download several tunes for a single VIN so it that sense the tool is keyed to a single vehicle. Frankly I would not expect anything different.
3. however, it's only the tune functionality that's coded to a specific vehicle; the tool still has the ability to read ECU codes on any vehicle, not just CRDs.

Also for what it's worth Keith can wipe the tool and code it to a different vehicle which is how he handles loaning the tool out for tune uploads.

So if you buy the tool you get a) the tune(s) your purchased on the tool; b) the ability to download and save your current tune; c) the ability to upload the tune(s) you own if a dealer reflashes your ECU; d) the ability to switch between tune(s) if you own more than one (ex. EcoTune for normal driving and a tow tune for towing travel); and e) an ECU code reader for you CRD and other vehicles.

Yes, I came to understand that. I had read a lot about it but missed THAT detail about tying the TOOL to a vin, not just the tunes.

Obviously, it must make money to sell it.
